Position summary

Job Summary:

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to assume a key FPGA design role as a member of the Advanced Electrical Products Department’s elite team of engineers. This role is in McKinney, TX.

In this role, you will develop FPGA designs for all major vendors and device families including Xilinx, Intel (formerly Altera), Lattice, and Microsemi. Designs are implemented using VHDL for the following applications: gigabit serial interfaces, Radio Frequency (RF) and Electro-Optical (EO) DSP, controls, data links, embedded processing, and processor interfaces. Designers work with circuit card designers and systems engineers to determine and develop requirements, architect new parts, collaborative modeling of algorithms, partition and perform code development, simulation, and place and route.  Designs are verified against requirements using both directed test and constrained random methodologies. Design support is expected from requirements definition through integration and test.  Design documentation and configuration management are required.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:

  • Help drive projects and execute to program schedules on time and budget
  • Demonstrate self-motivation, self-reliance, with little supervision required
  • Design and deliver production quality FPGA releases from initial proof of concept up to production
  • Work with systems, hardware, software engineers, and program management to ensure product success
  • Translate system level requirements into FPGA requirements
  • Design and code in VHDL for reliability and maintainability
  • Verify designs utilizing self-checking techniques with directed and constrained random tests, while tracking functional and code coverage
  • Create complete documentation including requirements, verification plan, and user’s guides
  • Support and/or lead internal and external technical reviews

This role is HYBRID.

Qualifications You Must Have:

Typically Requires:

Bachelor of Science in Computer or Electrical Engineering. An advanced degree in a related field can be used for 2 years of experience.

Employment Experience:

  • A minimum of 2 years of engineering experience
  • Experience with digital design and VHDL coding
  • Experience in Xilinx or Microsemi devices and flow tools
  • Experience in developing FPGA solutions for system level applications
  • Hands-on experience with integration and debug
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Value:

  • Experience in Xilinx Programmable Devices (MPSOC, RFSOC, Ultrascale+) or Intel programmable devices (Arria 10 or Stratix 10)
  • Experience using VHDL simulation tools such as QuestaSim
  • Experience using FPGA synthesis, place & route, and timing closure tools including Synplify, Xilinx Vivado, and Intel Quartus Pro
  • Proficiency in Linux
  • Working knowledge of C/C++ and/or in computer scripting language such as Shell/Perl/Python a plus
  • Demonstrate the ability to architect FPGA-based systems to determine parts, interfaces, and Concept of Operations (CONOPS)
  • Competencies to include FPGA design experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • Radar processing techniques
  • Image processing techniques for visual and infrared sensors
  • Embedded systems design using ARM, Microblaze, or Nios processors
  • Common computer hardware interface and data protocols such as RS-422, USB, PCIe, etc.
  • Gigabit serial interfaces and multi-gigabit transceivers (MGTs)
  • Constrained random verification in UVM using System Verilog
  • Verification utilizing emulation platforms, such as Veloce
