    Job Description:

    The Aero Thermal Fluids (ATF) organization is responsible for the functional aerodynamic design, analysis and performance of components and modules throughout Pratt & Whitney commercial and military engine product lines. 

    We are seeking multiple experienced combustion aerodynamicists to join our Combustor or Augmentor aerodynamics teams.

    Of particular interest are candidates with advanced skills in combustion physics, fuel system and injector design, pilot, combustor and flameholder design, combustion dynamics, as well as experts in high-fidelity modeling of reacting gas turbine combustion systems.  We are seeking motivated engineers with strong technical, problem solving, and communication skills to join our team and be part of continuing Pratt & Whitney's industry leadership in current and next generation military propulsion systems.

    A Combustion Aerodynamicist at Engineer II will contribute as an analyst with local leadership responsibilities with experienced gained.  The work-scope is identified with team lead(s) and mentor(s) in a dynamic and learning environment.

    Responsibilities include:

    Technical support to planning and execution of combustor / augmentor design and analysis tasks, including concept studies, product design, rig & engine tests, technology development, and root cause investigations.

    Technical execution of all aspects of high-fidelity combustion modeling workflow:  flowpath lofting, model development, grid generation, analysis execution, post-processing results, and analysis / interpretation of results as part of technology and product development programs.

    Create models, perform aero thermal fluids analyses, and integrate solutions with internal systems organizations and external airframe partners.

    Coordinate analyses and communicate results as part of a cross-disciplinary team, including internal customers and external customers (airframers, govt reps).

    Be responsible for timely and quality delivery of aerothermal analyses and contract deliverables.

    Process analytical and rig/engine test data to inform design decisions and root cause analyses.

    Support rig and/or engine testing, analyze results in support of analytical model validation and product design verification.

    Contribute to discipline process / tool development and continuous improvement strategic plans / tasks.

    Basic Qualifications:

    BS Degree in an Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)

    2+ years of prior relevant engineering experience, or an advanced engineering degree and no experie

    US Citizenship required due to government contracts. 

    Ability to obtain a security clearance.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    An active US Govt security clearance.

    Demonstrated technical excellence in combustion physics, aerodynamic/fluid mechanics analysis and their associated analysis tools (CFD, FEA, CAD, Matlab, etc).

    Experience leading aerothermal fluids teams and projects.

    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 

    Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

    Willingness to work in cross-disciplinary teams.
