    Job Summary:

    The Environmental Compliance and Sustainability Specialist is responsible for the management of water related compliance programs, including Backflow Prevention; Bulk Chemical Transfers; Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures (SPCC); Storage Tanks; Storm Water; Sumps, Pits & Containments; and Industrial/Wastewater Management. Responsible for managing water-related Sustainability program requirements in support of reduction goals. Responsible for managing Air Force funded water compliance projects.  Manages multiple software tools for compliance programs. Supports additional programs, including Air Force data requests, the Environmental Impact Analysis Process, the New Chemical Review Process, Endangered Species Program and other Environment, Health, and Safety programs.

    Responsibilities to Anticipate:

    Interprets, recommends, and complies with environmental regulations and/or company policy. Interprets federal, state, and local regulations as they apply to environmental compliance practices. Evaluates current policies, procedures, and documentation for compliance and ensures regulatory reporting requirements are met. Writes and updates environmental programs and procedures. Applies for new permits and permit renewals. Plans, develops, and implements long-range remedial environmental solutions in order to reduce environmental risk and protect company assets. May negotiate solutions with environmental regulatory agencies to minimize regulatory impact and compliance damages. 

    Assists in planning for changes in physical facilities to meet new environmental requirements. Sees that inspections are conducted, corrective actions are completed on time, and all necessary documentation is kept. Manages data using spreadsheets and databases. 

    Investigates and resolves compliance problems, questions, or complaints received from within the company, government regulatory agencies, and Air Force.  Develops and implements programs designed to increase employee awareness and knowledge of compliance programs.

    Works under general supervision. Follows established procedures. Work is reviewed for soundness of technical judgment and adequacy. Makes frequent application of technical standards and concepts. Provides solutions to a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity. 

    Qualifications You Must Have:

    • Typically require a university degree and 5 years’ experience in Environmental Compliance related field, or an advanced degree with 3 years of related experience, or an associate degree with 7 years of related experience or in the absence of the degree, 9 years of related experience is required.
    •  The ability to obtain and maintain a US government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

    Qualifications We Value:

    • Understanding of Clean Water Act (CWA) requirements
    • Experience with wastewater management and sampling
    • Experience with Technical writing
    • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Microsoft Project Management)
    • Experience in preparing and delivering presentations.
