Job Summary:

The Guidance Electronics Team provides Electrical Systems Engineering to develop Guidance Electronics solutions for products across the Raytheon Missiles and Defense (RMD) portfolio. Our team develops missile Guidance Electronics Hardware. Our core electrical engineering responsibilities include architecture, analysis, requirements, integration, and test. Our core electrical engineering technologies include RF/RADAR, Navigation/IMU/GPS, Digital, and Power. We partner with several Electrical Product Team departments that provide the detailed design of our electrical products as well as missile level systems teams.

The Guidance Electronics Team is searching for a Navigation/IMU engineer with which will work with the experienced Navigation/IMU engineers is support of selecting IMUs and integration into navigation subsystems. The Navigation/IMU Engineer shall be able to understand the fundamentals of how IMUs work, the different sensors used in an IMU and how they work and different types/classes of IMUs. He must also know how they are tested and be able to analyze IMU performance data. The engineer shall have a basic understanding of serial interfaces, hardware integration and test.  The engineer shall have a good understanding of IMUs and how they integrate into a system as part of the guidance and navigation system. The engineer should also be able to work independently to set up a test to verify IMU performance and analyze the results. The engineer must also be able to work in a program environment and provide day to day input on IMU questions and issues.

The Navigation/IMU Engineer will interface directly with suppliers of navigation or guidance electronics components. Familiarity with the GPS system and GPS technology and how it works within a navigation system is a plus.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:

• Work environment is primarily in an office, but may include labs, field work, or a combination.
• Assignments may include supporting programs with IMU selection, testing of IMUs, analysis of IMU performance, interface with IMU suppliers, developing and documenting IMU requirements and test plans; peer reviews of designs as a subject matter expert; presentations to peers, management, and government customers; and root-cause failure investigations.
• Missile Systems has a strong culture of mentoring; it is expected that employees will be both mentors and mentees.
• Ability to “fault-tree” out an issue to focus/prioritize activities and resources
• Assignments may require supporting multiple programs.
• Assignments may require some travel, including foreign travel.
• Work within a multi-disciplined team.
• Work independently, with little supervision.
• Develop a network and know when to use it to get help.

Qualifications You Must Have:

• Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM)
• Minimum of 8 years of engineering experience
• Experience in sub-systems, systems engineering, requirement development and/or requirement validation with respect to Inertial Sensors and Systems selection and product insertion into guidance and navigation systems
• U.S Citizenship is required.

The ability to obtain and maintain a US DOD Secret clearance prior to the start date. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for additional years of experience as follows: Master’s is equal to 2 years of experience or a Ph.D. is equal to 4 years of experience.

Qualifications We Value:

• Missile systems typically contain IMUs, GPSs. Guidance and Navigation computers and seekers and sensors. The ideal candidate will have a background in how these components are put together in a system to guide a missile to a target. Ideal candidates will also have some experience in systems engineering and architecture and have a desire to grow into a guidance section architect.
• Experience with Fiber Optic gyros, Ring Laser Gyros and MEMs gyros.
• Experience with mechanical and solid state accelerometers.
• Experience working with missiles or similar systems.
• Ability to lead cross-functional teams.
• Ability to drive suppliers in meeting commitments.
• Knowledge of DOD Hardware development process (knowledge of design gates).
• Practical experience in all phases of the product development lifecycle.
• Experience in developing proposals.
