The Collins Aerospace Avionics Vision Systems business located in Wilsonville, OR, makes Head Up Guidance Systems (HGS) for commercial, and military platforms, in addition to, helmet mounted display (HMD) technologies for current and future fighter jets. Whether it’s a nighttime operation or low visibility in adverse weather conditions, our HGS with enhanced vision systems gives our customers the power and assurance of unprecedented situational and terrain awareness. Our HMD technology provides pilots with advanced situational awareness and gives them critical information on their helmet’s visor, enhancing response times and reducing workload. 

Position Summary: 

New Product Introduction (NPI) is involved early in the product and technical development cycle before product transitions into full-rate, standard production. The NPI team consists of program managers, manufacturing engineers, and analysts. As a member of NPI team, you are dedicated to improving the program’s quality, cost, and schedule.  

The Manager, NPI Technical & Advanced Manufacturing (Manager) is a new position for the Wilsonville NPI and created based on team growth and program demand. The Manager will report to the NPI Site Leader. A successful Manager will come from grow the people talent and modernizing manufacturing process, tooling, and equipment. The Manager will lead a team of 11 people who are Manufacturing Industrial Engineers, Manufacturing Electrical Engineers, Design to Cost Engineering, Industrial Engineer Technicians, and Co-ops/Interns.  

Being onsite is required to ensure daily and weekly plans are achieved, issues are resolved, and team members are supported in a timely manner.  

Primary Responsibilities: 

• Leads the NPI technical team to achieve daily, weekly, and monthly plans through the Design and Development phase.  

• Creates, owns, and executes the NPI advanced manufacturing, innovation, and automation strategy.   

• Champions Operations voice during development decision making by developing Operations bid requirements to be incorporate in customer pursuits to ensure contracts progress the Factory of the Future.  

• Partners with Operations counterparts to gain internal customer input and close transition gaps.  

• Grows talent through cross training and by utilizing Individual Development Plans.  

• Manages capital and financial resources to planned budgets.  

• Supports deployment of manufacturing operations strategy, control systems, tools, and metrics to accurately measure progress and drive continuous improvement. 

• Plans, forecasts, and balances workload across team members to achieve program deliverables.  

Desired Characteristics: 

• Knowledgeable of aerospace industry, quality, and regulatory requirements.  

• Experienced across various types of electrical and optical builds and sub assembly systems.  

• Understands manufacturing processes, roles, systems, and objectives; works effectively within.   

• Experienced with engineering drawings, technical specifications, SAP, and configuration management applications.   

• Visual communication and technical writing experience.  

• Utilizes lean principles, a driver of improvement.  

• Self-directed; strong planning and organizational skills and is able adapt to changing priorities and assignments.  

• Demonstrates a sense of urgency, prudent risk-taking, and adaptive response to challenges. 

• Effective communicator with good judgment and strong critical thinking skills. 

• Strong peer leader who influences and drive cross-functional change.   

• Effective with Engineering programs, such as, Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Additive Manufacturing techniques (3D printing) of plastics, metals, and PCBs, and Solidworks.  

• Operation within a government regulated environment, FAA, FDA, DOE, DoD, etc.  

• Usage of Application Lifecycle Management software and Requirements Tracing software (JIRA, SAP, DOORS).   

• Excellent MS Office skills (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Project).  

Basic Qualifications: 

• Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience. 

• Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder. 

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.
