    The Manufacturing Engineer - Welding will manage all aspects of the development, implementation, and improvement of welding projects for the Power & Controls Air Management Systems business unit supporting the Pratt & Whitney Engine Systems business in Windsor Locks, Connecticut.  This position will provide leadership for flawless execution for both production and development programs. Close coordination with the management team is a must to ensure alignment with our customers’ needs and to drive high performance.

    The Manufacturing Engineer - Welding will be accountable for execution within the established metrics for productivity, cost reduction, and technology projects to improve machining operations in Windsor Locks and at suppliers as appropriate. The ideal candidate will be creative, energetic, and adaptable with a positive attitude to lead teams through challenges, address productivity improvements and drive a cost reduction culture.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Ownership of the Welding Discipline within the Air Management Systems business
    • Design and make of tooling for welding operations.
    • Writing of Solumina plans; ensure resources available for timely completion
    • Develop welding processes for rate production and new product development programs.
    • Work within the IPD Teams to determine areas of concern and develop solutions (including formal DFMEA)
    • Own PFMEA and development of Process Control Plan
    • Communicate and coordinate hourly support with Supervision, including OT planning.
    • Manage Welder Certifications; Ensure welding resources are capable.   
    • Lead teams (including at suppliers) in support of manufacturing improvement, productivity, cost reduction projects.
    • Develop metrics and tracking systems to identify, track, execute and complete welding projects with measurable milestones consistent with the program objectives
    • Participate in proposals and manufacturing plans.
    • Coordinate with the IE team to implement Lean Transformation projects. 
    • Lead root cause investigations and implement systemic corrective actions and process improvements related to welding operations.
    • Participate in development of Technology Development Plans (TDPs) including funding and staffing requirements.
    • Achieve customer satisfaction, measured by feedback analysis and other metrics
    • Other duties as assigned.
    • Minimal travel to other company sites, as needed.

    Basic Qualifications:

    • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience
    • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required.

    • Experience in Aerospace or other Industrial industry

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Prior welding experience
    • Experience as a Welding Engineer meeting requirements of AWS D17.1 and D17.2
    • AWS Certified Weld Inspector
    • Experience with aerospace systems and components
    • Experience coaching, training or mentoring welders
