    The following position is to join our Corporate or Research Center Team: 

    The Measurement Science Group at the Raytheon Technologies Research Center (East Hartford, CT) has an open position for an intern to work in our Materials Characterization laboratories. The position will involve playing an active role on a dynamic interdisciplinary team that develops solutions for product and technology development challenges.

    You will be part of a team responsible for applying precision material preparation and characterization techniques to evaluate the physical properties of materials, components, and structures. The team is integral to many of the innovation research projects at Raytheon Technologies Research Center. The team also works with the various business units of RTX to resolve technical issues.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Setting up chemical-based processes
    • Chemical handling
    • Optical microscopy methods
    • Chemical spectroscopic methods such as FTIR and Raman spectroscopy

    The preferred candidate will be capable of excelling as an individual contributor as well as in a team environment. Experience will be gained in a fast-paced hands-on laboratory environment under the direct oversight highly skilled practioners in the field. Additional experience can be gained in image and data documentation for incorporation into customer reports is desirable.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Currently pursuing a 4-year degree in Chemistry, Materials Science or Engineering discipline with at least a 3.2 GPA. Please submit a copy of your transcripts with your application.
    • Previous exposure to general laboratory protocols related to standard operating practices and safety
    • High degree of enthusiasm for technology and an ability to learn quickly
    • Communicate clearly and effectively with management, team members and researchers
    • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in fast-paced, team environment or independently with limited direction
    • Self-starter with willingness to take initiative, contribute to results and take ownership of assigned projects/initiatives
    • U.S. citizen or U.S. person (green card holder)
