Job Summary:
Pratt & Whitney’s Materials & Processes Engineering (MPE) group is seeking a Materials Applications Engineer to focus on polymeric materials and processes (adhesives, composites, thermoplastics, thermosets, etc.). Materials Application engineers approve critical P&W material and definition documents, including engineering changes and engineering drawings, and ensure the design intent is being achieved. The Materials Applications engineer represents MPE as a reviewer during design reviews and supports manufacturing operations, suppliers, and dispositions non-conformances.
Key Responsibilities:
Apply scientific principles to innovate, design, develop, and implement solutions related to polymer and bonded components.
Creative, analytical, self-starter, energetic, and work in a team environment at all levels of organization.
The approval of designs and repairs for choice of proper materials and processing methods.
Provide guidance to design, manufacturing, and analytical groups concerning materials properties and processes and to materials and process specialists concerning design intent.
Assist suppliers and customers with materials, manufacturing, and repair related issues.
Travel: 10% to other Pratt & Whitney sites
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or other Engineering degree
8+ years of prior relevant experience OR an Advanced Degree with 5+ years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:
Strong knowledge of aerospace structural thermoplastics, composite materials, adhesives, and processes, designs, testing, and manufacturing methods and procedures.
Excellent interpersonal skills required to interface with people of diverse engineering disciplines.
Excellent communication skills, including technical writing.
MS Office, especially Excel, with statistical data analysis software familiarity a plus.
Knowledge of engineering drawings, aerospace material and process specifications, and process quality controls.
Experience in manufacturing a plus.
Familiar with environmental regulations, such as REACH, a plus.
Familiar with part and test specimen failure mode and analysis a plus.
Familiar with chemical and anodic cleaning and processing methods a plus.
