Pratt & Whitney Engine Design & Systems Integration (EDSI) is a dynamic engineering organization focused on the development and certification of military, commercial and industrial gas turbine engines.   EDSI is responsible for the integration of components, modules and sub-systems into world class commercial and military propulsion systems. This includes engine performance, operability, system level modeling, validation and verification of performance and operability requirements, and functional engine and air vehicle systems integration.  EDSI also defines engine architecture, system and structural design as well as manages all requirements across the program.

The 30K GTFA (Geared Turbo Fan Advantage, formerly “30K PIP”) program offers an exciting array of challenges as the program matures through IPD Phase 4 (Verification & Validation). The goal for the GTFA program is to reduce fuel burn & system temperatures while increasing engine removal interval, time on wing, part durability and hardware life for life limited parts.

P&W is seeking an individual with strong technical, problem solving, communication, and leadership skills to join the 30K GTFA EDSI Systems Analysis (SA) team as an Engine Systems Analysis Lead.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Manage engine system status and projection relative to technical requirements through the engine development plan (EDP).
    • Execute and lead engine test data analysis, including data reduction; component and system performance evaluation; and model updates leading to a data matched model.
    • Contribute, maintain, and update the engine aero-thermo model (NPSS), review and support internal and external conventional model releases.
    • Manage operability audit through certification and post-certification phases
    • Develop and evaluate control schemes and schedules (e.g. trims) for engine test and product
    • Test and instrumentation planning for validation and certification
    • Document test and analysis results in certification reports
    • Support and contribute to relevant integration (IPT, SSIPT, EDSIT, & SIPT), customer, and senior leadership meetings
    • Support Engineering Changes through system level analysis of EC impacts
    • Work with customers to troubleshoot compliance issues and answer questions on engine performance and operability
    • Own tasks and projects that span SA subdisciplines: “soup to nuts” ownership of outcome and work across system analysis subdiscipline boundaries to achieve program deliverables
    • Mentor and develop SA engineers
    • Contribute to Discipline Councils and participate in program read-across where appropriate
    • Contribute to subdisciplines’ process improvement strategy and tasks. Work deliberately to integrate and improve processes across subdisciplines
    • This is a hybrid role (2 days in office) and there is < 10% travel associated with this role

    Basic Qualifications:

    • A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience
    • US Citizenship required due to Government Contracts

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
    • Knowledge of engine performance, cycle analysis, engine matching, and test analysis integration
    • Expertise with Unigraph and NPSS (including PDR)
    • Knowledge of control logic and schedules generation
    • Knowledge of engine operability and transient engine analysis
    • Knowledge of component aerodynamics, air systems, heat transfer & secondary flow, or other related disciplines
    • Experience fostering meaningful relationships with internal and external customers.
    • Experience with risk management and requirements management
    • A record of delivering timely results in a cross-functional team environment
    • Ability to communicate effectively with customers and all levels of management
