Principal Applications Engineer (Remote)

The Raytheon Technologies (RTX) team is seeking a talented individual to join the Raytheon Intelligence and Space (RI&S) Engineering Tooling team.  The ideal candidate will support the Infrastructure and Transformation organization in Common Engineering and be responsible for the ownership and lifecycle management of engineering software applications/tools, automated solutions, and best practices.  The Principal Applications Engineer is also responsible for documenting, coordinating, and status accounting for the indirect engineering Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) Software Application baseline.  This position requires close attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced dynamic environment.  It also requires prioritizing tasks consistent with RI&S Engineering priorities.  The ideal candidate possesses attention to detail as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills.  The Principal Applications Engineer coordinates closely with the Program leadership, Product Lines, Engineers across Disciplines, RI&S Engineering Leadership, and Supply Chain Management (SCM) to ensure all procured COTS applications are properly documented. Job responsibilities include:

• ASSET MANAGEMENT
  • Administer the technical coordination of Engineering COTS Software Applications
  • Supports external vendor audits
  • Engages strategic vendors for Engineering technology evaluations and improvements which will address RI&S needs
  • Provides input and leadership for new or re-engineered asset management processes and/or automation tool implementations
  • Supports the development of the Engineering COTS application architecture and related documentation
• ENGINEERING SOLUTIONS
  • Provides first line support for applicable ServiceNow Engineering software requests
  • Administers an engineering repository in both Windows and Linux based systems for engineering software installations
  • Identifies, documents, and champions engineering automation best practices and improvements which help engineers be more productive
  • Addresses user requests for software approval, adhering to established policy and processes
  • Works closely with hardware asset management to help support integration, license key/file management, and software upgrades
• ENGINEERING STRATEGIST SUPPORT
  • Coordinates with RI&S Engineering Governance to ensure all COTS configuration controlled items are properly identified, version controlled, and recorded in a configuration status accounting system
  • Supports the evaluation of COTS application updates
• RAYTHEON CWA SUPPORT
  • Conducts periodic COTS Corporate Wide Agreement (CWA) audits as aligned with CWA Yearly True-ups/Renewals to compare and validate, analyze results, identify gaps, and recommend balancing solutions to ensure compliance
  • Champions business participation in all existing CWAs for software licenses
• Stakeholder for daily team SCRUM meetings, ensuring that team priorities are correct and impediments are quickly removed

Required Skills:

• Eight+ years of  experience in Software/Hardware asset management – Engineering, Digital Technologies, or Information Services experience
• A solid understanding of Commercial Off the shelf and Free Open Source Software products and maintenance lifecycle
• Expertise in vendor relationships, Raytheon Requisition and Purchase Order process
• Experience with CWAs and Enterprise Agreements
• Practical application of software compliance regulations and entitlement requirements
• Direct experience working with software management and compliance tools
• Working knowledge of database design, manipulation and analysis
• Detail oriented with strong analytic and problem solving skills
• Team player with demonstrated ability to work well within a large diverse, distributed organization

Desired Skills:

• Excellent communication skills with peers and leaders concerning process, business, program, and personnel topics
• Familiar with office automation and engineering tools: MS Office, relational databases, Supply Chain Management tools, Financing
• TS/SCI clearance
• Knowledge of Eracent, SCCM, Remedy, SRM (Service Request Management), and ServiceNow
• Software Asset Management Certificate
• Knowledge of Free Open Source Software (FOSS) application uses, restrictions and management
• Experience defining, analyzing and reporting software metrics
• Raytheon Business unit financial structure knowledge

Education and Experience Requirements:

Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM), or related STEM degree program from an Accredited University/School/College with 8+ years of related work experience.
