    The Ice, Rain & Stall (IRS) Engineering organization is seeking a principal electrical engineer at our Burnsville, MN location. IRS Engineering, as part of the broader Collins Engineering organization, serves the IRS Product Value Stream. IRS products include Ice Detectors, Ice Rate Sensors, Ice Protection Systems, Windshield Ice Protection / Heater Controllers, Angle of Attack Sensors, Stall Warning/Protection Systems, and Windshield Wipers Systems.

    The principal electrical engineer will be responsible for the design, development, test, qualification, and certification of IRS products. The principal engineer will be a highly motivated self-starter who will be capable of leading a team of electrical engineers to meet cost and schedule objectives.

    This position can be either an on-site or hybrid role.  Relocation is available for qualified candidates.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Leads technical effort of a small to medium electrical engineering team including outsource and offshore organizations
    • Performs engineering work for new products to ensure specifications, quality standards, and functional objectives are met
    • This includes researching, developing, designing, testing, and troubleshooting electrical components, equipment, systems, and products
    • Interfaces with engineers, customers, vendors and other stakeholders on existing and potential engineering projects or products
    • Resolves technical problems on the production floor to improve yield, scrap, and performance metrics
    • Creates engineering documentation for existing and new products
    • Leads internal and external technical design reviews
    • Develops and demonstrates a deep technical understanding of product families
    • Provides technical leadership of complex designs to customers, electrical engineering community and IRS Value Stream
    • Coaches and mentors electrical engineering team
    • Develops and executes electrical engineering standard practices
    • Provides estimations for new hardware pursuits

    Basic Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of prior relevant experience OR
    • Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience OR
    • In absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required
    • Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
    • 5+ years’ experience designing Circuit Card Assemblies (CCAs)
    • 5+ years’ experience reviewing and/or writing product specifications and determining design requirements and scope of work
    • 5+ years’ experience of requirements management and design verification process

    Must be US Citizen or US person

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • 8+ years’ experience in analog design, electromagnetic interference (EMI), lightning protection, power supply design, digital communications, qualification testing, high power electronics and PCB layout
    • Proficiency with Allegro and Cadence tools to design Schematics, Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs), Circuit Cards Assemblies (CCAs) and associated drawings
    • Experience working in the Aerospace industry
    • Design and test experience with RTCA DO-160 & MIL-STD-461
    • Experience with RTCA DO-254
