The Collins Aerospace Applied Research & Technology organization seeks candidates with proven research credentials in model-based engineering to join the Engineering Simulation Group. The team is part of the Collins Aerospace Advanced Methods Department, and geographically distributed in the US and Italy, and works with Collins product teams and external research sponsors to extend both the state of the art and the state of the practice of Cyber Physical, Embedded systems and AI-enabled systems development.
The ideal candidate has a mix of academic and research background in Model-Based Engineering and experience in cyber-physical systems modeling and simulation, and AI-enriched Simulation applications and methods.
The candidate is required to be adaptable to change, possess critical thinking skills and determined to accomplish tasks based on program schedule, collaborate with teammates, enjoy learning new technologies, be self-motivated and contribute to a positive work environment.

Primary Responsibilities:
Candidate will develop new design and verification methods and solutions, exploring evolutionary AI-reasoning, reinforcement learning, uncertainty quantification, and statistical computing methods for cyber-physical systems modeling and simulation to enable broad resilience.
Contribute to the definition of R&D activities within an international research community, including technology development within collaborative multi-national research programs, combining research and development skills.
Lead the maturation and transition of transformative technologies to industrial business units bridging the gap between exploratory research and industrial application.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of prior relevant experience OR
Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience OR
In absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required
Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
Experience in managing Government Research and Development (R&D) activity projects and processes including contract, opportunity, and research proposals.
Must be a U.S. Citizen
Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in research proposals writing.
Experience with computer modeling / simulation, and ML techniques.
Strong technical writing and oral communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to identify complex problems, evaluate options, and develop solutions.
Motivated self-starter with a strong enthusiasm to learn and passion for speed and agility; proactive in building sound, collaborative relationships, and skills to work in international teams
PhD in an appropriate technical discipline, such as Computer Science, Computer Engineering and up to 5 years of relevant experience.
Experience with modeling and simulation of cyber-physical systems. The focus is on models of physical process, finite state machines, computation, converters between physical and cyber variables, and digital networks.
Experience with simulation techniques for V&V of CPSs (e.g., model checking driven simulation).
Experience on probability theory and statistics inference.
Experience on ML techniques (e.g., deep learning, reinforcement learning) and ML dev frameworks (e.g., Keras / TensorFlow, Scikit-Learn, Matlab DL Toolbox).
Experience with scientific computing environments and modeling paradigm such as Modelica, MATLAB, Simulink, or ANSYS, etc.
Experience with software tool architecture definition, tool prototype implementation, tool integration and automation solutions.
Experience with programming languages (C/C++, etc) and scripting languages such Python.
Familiarity with gaming engines and/or technologies (Unreal / Unity / OpenGL / 3D modeling).
Knowledge of project management.
