    The Collins Aerospace team seeks a Principal RF Engineer to support the CNS (Communications, Navigation, and Surveillance) Weather Radar department.  The Weather Radar group supports, integrates, and develops multiple commercial avionics products for the Air Transport and Business and Regional aircraft markets developing new and next generation advanced weather radar systems.

    A motivated Principal RF designer is being sought with a focus on success and a desire to join an industry-leading product team. The applicant must be self-motivated, self-disciplined, with good communications skills, and a demonstrated ability to work within a multifunctional, multidiscipline team. The candidate will be required to demonstrate flexibility and an ability to coordinate with multiple suppliers and customers to achieve a common goal. This role is located ONSITE/HYBRID in Melbourne, FL with relocation available.

    Hybrid: Employees who are working in Hybrid roles will work regularly both onsite and offsite.  Ratio of time working onsite will be determined in partnership with your leader. 

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Lead the design, analysis, and verification of the RF front-end architecture for advanced radar systems.

    • Assess and evaluate trade-offs between different RF front-end design architectures and topologies.

    • Design and prototype RF transmitter/receiver circuits operating in X-band frequencies.

    • Evaluate and optimize hardware to meet system performance requirements, including antenna performance e.g., gain, bandwidth, beam width, and radiation patterns.

    • Analyze circuit performance using EM/circuit simulation tools.

    • Create and oversee detailed drawings, schematics, and PCB layout.

    • Design, debug, and test RF and Analog Circuits (power amplifiers, low-noise amplifiers, and filter designs).

    • Conduct RF tests using network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and signal generators.

    • Conduct and support Near-Field Range antenna testing.

    • Develop verification test plans and procedures to ensure the developed product meets the specified requirements.

    • Collaborate with Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, and Manufacturing to ensure robust designs and appropriate testability.

    • Support activities for commercial aircraft certification.

    Qualifications & Experience:

    • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience OR

    • Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience OR

    • In absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience 

    • Expertise in RF radio communication design in X-band frequencies.

    • Proficient in design, debug, and test of Radio Frequency (RF) and Analog Circuits (power amplifier, low-noise amplifier and filter design).

    • Proficient with common RF/EM/antenna simulation platforms like AWR Microwave Office and Ansys HFSS.

    • Familiar with common RF test equipment.

    Preferred:

    • Experience with antenna design and testing.

    • Experience with RTCA DO-254 standards for Design Assurance Guidance for Airborne Electronic Hardware.

    • Familiar with Weather Radar standards for commercial applications.
