The Collins Aerospace Avionics Platform Software (AvPSW) Department is looking for a talented Principal Software Engineer to join our group creating cutting-edge technology. This exciting opportunity requires an individual who has skills and interests in software development, test, implementation and integration activities. This individual will work in the AvPSW department designing and developing platform software (operating systems, device drivers, board support packages, development tools) to support common computing platforms that are integrated into safety-critical processing and display applications.
As a member of our team, you will be involved in the design, development, verification and integration of real-time embedded safety critical software onto multiple operating systems and hardware platforms. Our embedded software is written in C and our automated test environment is written in Python. Experience in C is a must for this position.
Primary Responsibilities:
Act as a focal for software integration activities on safety critical systems on multiple real-time operating systems.
Design, develop, verify and integrate safety critical real time systems on multiple real time operating systems.
Develop high-level software requirements for safety critical systems.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in the planning, design, development, and utilization of embedded software.
Develop, coordinate, and conduct tests and debug complex systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions.
Participate in developing software estimates for assigned area of work Mentor other software engineers.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of prior relevant experience OR
Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience OR
In absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required
Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills for purposes of developing requirements and design documentation and proposing well thought out solutions to technical problems.
Knowledge of software engineering processes and methodologies.
Ability to follow the project's defined software process for development, verification and configuration management.
Ability to collaborate with engineers and generate a positive team working environment. Willingness to learn and be flexible.
In-depth experience with the C programming language.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with DO-178C software development practices.
Ability to quickly acquire technical domain knowledge and contribute to the design of sophisticated architectural systems.
Experience developing automated tests utilizing Python.
Experience with real-time operating systems.
Strong background in the development of low-level software and concurrent processing solutions.
This position is open to Onsite, Hybrid, and Remote candidates.
