    Pratt & Whitney Hot Section Engineering Support to Operations (HSE ESTO) is seeking a goal oriented, detail-focused Principal Structures Engineer to act as main focal point for production support activity on defined hardware/program, and to work as the lead point of contact for specific hardware and program needs. Final determination on assigned hardware and program will be based on candidate’s experience.   Possible opportunities include Military airfoils, Military rotor, Military Exhaust Nozzle, Military and Commercial static hardware to include Diffusers & Combustors. 

    Key Responsibilities:

    Phase 1 – Reactive

    • Be the driving force that leads the team toward the solution.   Remove the barriers.  Find the path.
    • Forecast resource planning for both PW and outsource needs.
    • Coordinate and lead teams to meet task technical and schedule requirements.
    • Drive outsource teams QN (Quality Notifications) workflow, manage outsource technical quality and grow outsource technical proficiency.
    • Opportunity for increased visibility.  Interface with multiple CIPTs (Component Integrated Product Teams), suppliers and customers by being the main point of contact for all QN activity.
    • Demonstrate ability to make decisions in high visibility environment.
    • Support 502 and 701 task closure (5 day TAT)
    • Drive SDO (Stop Delivery Order)/FPN (Fleet Podding Notification) investigations and rapid closure.
    • Look for opportunities for improvement in process, procedures.   Challenge the status quo “the way we do business”.   Look for something better.
    • Ability to make risk-based decision with eye on need and timeliness.
    • Draw on engineering fundamentals/physics and choose a solution with balanced conservatism.  Promote "Right-size Analysis".

    Phase 2 - Proactive

    • Opportunity to define the sphere of influence based on demonstrated interpersonal skills, leadership and delegation.
    • Lead the charge to Identify and eliminate areas of waste – time or money within production support process.    Look for unique solutions to the problem.
    • Eliminate repeat analysis through proactively addressing repeat QNs.
    • Engineering representative facilitating cross functional teams to drive to heart of producibility issues or quality initiatives.   (program office, customer, quality, supplier, design, structures etc.).
    • Lean into automation efforts to streamline the structural analysis process and documentation to save time and increase quality.
    • Continue to challenge current process and procedures “the way we do business” to identify areas for improvement.  
    • Enable and drive outsource responsible parties’ path towards delegate approval.
    • Capture ESTO producibility lessons learned. 
    • Drive continuous improvement into product development cycle. 
    • Incorporate Pro-Cert methodology and data driven decision making into Class II process.
    • Enable and develop ESTO PW and Outsource technical and professional proficiency.
    • Define the technical path for younger/less experience engineers to follow.
    • Mentor others in professional communication style and problem approaches. 
    • Work schedule: Hybrid.
    • Travel up to 10%.

    Basic Qualifications:

    • Bachelors of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or in a related field and 8+ years of relevant engineering experience, OR
    • Master's of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or in a related field and 5+ years of relevant engineering experience.
    • US Person Status required due to government contracts.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience working in the Aerospace Industry in a manufacturing environment.
    • Working proficiency with MS Office, Ansys.
    • Direct and concise communicator.  Know your audience and tailor accordingly.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and cultural awareness.
    • Passionate and innovative individual with an eye on improvement.
    • Adaptable leads that can handle multiple different tasks, or teams or hardware groups at once.
    • Demonstrated ability to work with different personalities.   Find middle ground and be willing to reach a solution.
