The Whole Life Engineering (WLE) Directorate provides effective and affordable design support and optimal sustainment solutions. Job Summary:

We are looking for a Principal System Safety Engineer to join our System Safety team located in Tucson, AZ.  Your overall responsibilities will include:

• Analysis of engineering hardware, electrical drawings/schematics and assessing for fault tolerance, latent hazards, and safety requirement compliance.
• Work with test and tactical operating and maintenance procedures to assure the proper administrative controls are in place.
• Work across all integrated product teams and lines to properly eliminate hazards or provide effective measures.
• Collaborate with Program Management and government approval authorities from program startup through production to demilitarization and disposal activities.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:

• Performing System Safety Program or Design analyses (e.g. software, hardware, flight test, maintenance and hazard management).
• Managing a large system safety program or multiple mid-sized safety programs, to include:
• Monitoring program technical execution
• Interfacing with stakeholders (e.g. customers, program offices, subcontractors, vendors)
• Mentoring Jr. Engineers
• Supporting and developing Safety Program Briefs
• Experience with performing critical fault tree safety analyses.
• Briefing program safety at technical interchange reviews with the customer to include the Weapon Systems Explosives Safety Review Board (WSESRB) approval process.
• Interpreting system requirements, customer specifications and military standards.
• Collaborating across multiple engineering disciplines to gain a full understanding of product design.

Qualifications You Must Have:

Typically Requires

• Bachelor's degree and 8 years of relevant experience OR an associate degree and 10 years of relevant experience OR an advanced degree in a related field and minimum 5 years’ experience. In absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required.   
• Experience with System Safety Engineering, System Engineering, Software or Firmware Engineering, or equivalent Safety Engineering in areas including Aerospace, Automotive or Medical Device industries.
• Experience with preparing and delivering safety assessment reports.
• The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance. US citizenship is required as only US citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Value:

• Strong written, verbal and presentation skills.
• Strong interpersonal and project management skills, with the ability to manage a safety program and provide direction to supporting safety personnel.
• Master’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM).
