Job Summary:
Raytheon Missiles & Defense (RMD) is currently seeking a test equipment design engineer to join the Test Systems Sensors Solutions Team. This is an excellent position for a test equipment engineer who has a background in digital test, analog test, RF test, or power supply test and a desire to apply those skills to combined hardware/software test solutions. The primary responsibilities will be the development and implementation of test capabilities leveraging a strong working knowledge of test equipment hardware and software technologies.
You will be joining a diverse project team for the design and development of test equipment and test solutions for testing radar, sonar, communication, missile, combat control systems, subsystems and components for various programs within RMD. These products can contain Analog, RF, Microwave, Acoustic, High Power, and Digital Electronic technology and can also have Software (embedded, firmware, Signal Processing, VHDL, etc.). Test Development Engineers are involved from the beginning of product design as a concurrent engineering effort, continuing into supporting engineering design verification testing, production test and final system level verification and sell-off; includes in-plant or field testing.
Typical test solutions include simulation, stimulation and data acquisition capability to provide stimulus and response test environments for verifying functional performance. Typical test systems encompass Hardware In the Loop Simulators, Custom Automatic Test Equipment, Commercial Automatic Test Equipment, High Power, Mixed-Signal, Digital and Environmental Stress Screening systems, mechanical holding fixtures, adapters, and interface cabling and harnessing.
Responsibilities to Anticipate:
Work with internal and external partners on the design and deployment of complex factory test systems.
Lead development of test hardware, software, and/or firmware through its development cycle, from requirements definition through deployment at manufacturing or customer facilities. These test capabilities may span disciplines (Power, RF, Analog, Digital) and domains (hardware, software, firmware).
Work with Hardware Design and Operations teams early in development cycle to identify capability and capacity needs for manufacturing test and ensure smooth deployment to manufacturing facilities.
Actively identify test readiness issues and optimizations through development lifecycle.
Lead a medium-to-large teams to meet project budget, schedule, and performance commitments
Provide technical leadership to employees in support of their specific work assignments
Engage in personal technical growth and encourage technical growth in peers and junior engineers.
Prepare and clearly present your team’s work product to Functional and Program Leadership at status meetings.
Present at technical and program reviews to customers (internal and/or external)
Understand and report financial & earned value status for monthly reporting cycle.
Proactively manage and mitigate Risks and Opportunities
Support Manufacturing operations, including on-site troubleshooting and debugging, both independently and in collaboration with design engineering teams.
Contribute to cost, schedule, and technical solutions for bid and proposal development.
Qualifications You Must Have:
Typically requires Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of prior relevant experience OR an Advanced degree and 5 years of relevant experience OR In absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required
Experience in engineering design and development, including test equipment design and/or development
The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
Qualifications We Value:
Bachelor’s or higher in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) is preferred
Digital, and/or Analog, and/or RF, and/or power supply test hardware design experience
Use of Commercial Test and Measurement Equipment
VXI/VME/MXI/PXI/CompactPCI Application Development
CMMI and 6 Sigma Experience
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Good decision-making and problem-solving skills
Experience with VHDL a plus
Software applications / programming skills a plus
