Collins Aerospace is one of the world’s largest suppliers of technologically advanced aerospace and defense products.  Within our Mission Systems business unit we have manufactured and actively maintain the fleet of spacesuits onboard the International Space Station, and we designed and built the thermal control system of the Parker Solar Probe which has recently touched the sun.  The Collins Aerospace Mission Systems business in Windsor Locks is looking for an energetic and highly motivated candidate for its Welding Engineering/Materials Engineering function to support primarily space life support and thermal control hardware.

Responsibilities

• Recommend weld designs and material selection.
• Troubleshoot welding, brazing and joining issues.
• Approve and oversee the approval of weld and braze schedules as well furnace braze cycles and other braze processes.
• Generate and review approval reports.
• Support drawing reviews primarily related to joining call outs. 
• Present to management on related technical topics.
• Work with customers on related technical topics.
• Interface daily with operations department.
• The position entails day-to-day interface with internal and external customers working in a team-oriented environment.  It requires strong organizational and communication (oral and written) skills, and safe laboratory working practices. This job is considered a sensitive position in accordance with NASA Guidelines.  The selected candidate will be subject to drug and alcohol testing per NASA's regulation subpart 1823.5 Drug-Free Workforce.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of prior relevant experience OR
• Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience OR
• In absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required
• Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
• B.S., M.S. or PhD in Welding Engineering, Materials Engineering or related engineering/technical discipline plus relevant experience or strong familiarity with a variety of welding, brazing and joining technologies.

Preferred Qualifications:

• GTA welding, EB welding, Ti welding, and furnace brazing of steel, nickel and aluminum parts are the most frequently used technologies in the Collins Space and Sea dept. Experience with these will be desirable in a potential candidate.
• Other technologies that a candidate will encounter include, laser welding, explosion bonding and friction welding of various types. New designs may use other new technologies over time as well, experience in these technologies as well as general metallurgical knowledge is also desirable.
• Experience within the aerospace or DOD industry, or equivalent, is preferred.
