    Raytheon Intelligence & Space in Goleta, California is seeking a Chief Engineer for the Raytheon Vision Systems (RVS) Operations Organization. As the Production Chief Engineer, you will be responsible for the overall strategy to improve yields and product performance across the RVS manufacturing center which contains both a semiconductor fabrication facility as well as a camera and sensor precision assembly facility. The RVS manufacturing center produces some of the highest performing and best value integrated Dewar assemblies in the infrared industry.

    As the Chief Engineer, you will be expected to lead the new product introduction into production and product maturation through implementing strategies to ensure design for manufacturing is appropriately informed and applied. In this role, you will collaborate effectively with development and process engineering organization partners to identify technology gaps and deficiencies, evaluate, and qualify mitigation and continuous improvement solutions. In addition, you will develop the improvement roadmap and guide teams of yield, process, product, and manufacturing engineers in solving RVS Operations’ most challenging problems. You will guide yield improvement teams and continuous improvement initiatives day-to-day as well as guiding strategic initiatives on how to improve factory performance and predictability to avoid future yield excursions before they happen. This role requires a balance of semiconductor process background, precision assembly background, data analytics, organizational skills, leadership, and communication.  

    As Production Chief Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the cross-functional Yield Management Team, presenting to executives on progress of strategic initiatives as well as yield task forces and root cause investigations. You will report directly to the Director of Operations and drive technical progress by leveraging the entire Operations team, including a group of yield engineers who will take technical guidance from you.

    Required Skills:

    • Minimum of 12 years of professional experience in engineering and manufacturing environments.

    • Ability to identify potential yield-limiting defect sources, define an aggressive defect reduction roadmap and own the execution and results.

    • Experience planning, leading, and executing root-cause and corrective-action (RCCA) efforts to correct yield excursions.

    • Excellent background leading teams through yield improvement, semiconductor manufacturing, precision assembly and structured problem-solving.

    • Provide both professional and technical team mentoring across a mix of cross-functional disciplines and staff backgrounds and experiences.

    • Ability to think strategically about how RVS can transition programs from development into production and achieve predictable yields manufacturing challenging, cutting-edge products.

    • Excellent communicator internally/externally at the senior executive level with meaningful interpersonal, leadership, and organizational skills.

    • Change agent who boldly stands up and acts, and possesses a deep sense of urgency

    Desired Skills:

    • Experience in infrared sensor development and electro-optic sensing system manufacturing including sensor packaging.

    • Previous experience with high mix precision electromechanical/semiconductor products in a highly regulated Operations environment

    • Excellent background in data analytics and statistics, able to guide data acquisition and application strategy, as well as move Operations towards real time statistical analysis. 

    • Experience setting up Design for Manufacturing process, rules, and implementation in high mix semiconductor manufacturing environment.

    Education:

    • BS degree in Engineering or related technical discipline

    Desired Education:

    • MS or PhD in Engineering or related technical discipline

    Requires:

    • Expert knowledge of multiple work areas typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience.

    • Expert knowledge of market with the ability to identify best practices and how to best utilize within RTX.

    Typically requires:

    • A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 12 years prior relevant experience, or

    • An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 10 years experience

    Engineering/Other Technical Positions

    • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 12 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations

    ERIP Award Eligible:

    • Only employees currently with RMD and RIS have the potential to receive a Referral Award for submitting a referral to RMD and RIS roles. All eligibility requirements must be met to receive the Referral Awarding.

    The salary range for this role is 139,000 USD - 277,000 USD; however, Raytheon Technologies considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.
