Pratt & Whitney has just completed construction on a world-class turbine airfoil production facility in Asheville, North Carolina. The new, 1,000,000-square-foot facility will house an advanced casting foundry for production of turbine airfoils as well as conduct machining, coating and finishing of hardware onsite. This state-of-the-art facility will also implement best-in-class manufacturing technologies and processes exemplifying industry 4.0 manufacturing principles while complementing existing turbine airfoil work that is currently done across Pratt & Whitney’s facilities.

The Vanes Manufacturing Engineering organization within the Asheville site is seeking an experienced and motivated Production Support Technician to help with FAI development and Continuous Improvement activities in assigned manufacturing areas. This position will be working mostly on Grinding, EDM and Milling processes where first-hand machining experience is a must have.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead FAI development and new Process Tryout on the Shop Floor.
• Help train operators in proper use of work cell machines and equipment.
• Be the first point of contact on assigned parts and manufacturing processes.
• Organize and lead Continuous Improvement activities in area of responsibility.
• Track product quality/cost and identify improvements where opportunities exist.

Basic Qualifications:

• HS Diploma or AA/AS Degree (or other 2 year post high school training)with a minimum of 4 years relevant experience
• US Citizenship required due to government contracts
• An in-depth working knowledge of common Machine Tools and CNC Controls with the ability to trouble-shoot programs, fixtures and tools as necessary to correct quality defects.

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Some college level course work in Engineering or related Technical Field with 4+ years of experience in a Precision Machining environment.
• The flexibility and assertiveness to solve problems and drive change directly on the Shop Floor working with all levels of Operations and Manufacturing Engineering personnel.                                                                      
• Broad knowledge of the Aerospace Industry and experience in Turbine Engine parts manufacturing.

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance workers, as they are essential to the development of our engines.

Candidates will learn more about role type and current site status throughout the recruiting process. For onsite and hybrid roles, commuting to and from the assigned site is the employee’s personal responsibility.
