Position summary

Collins Aerospace is one of the world’s largest suppliers of technologically advanced aerospace and defense products. Space Systems is a business unit within the Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance and Space Solutions (ISRSS) portfolio of the Mission Systems business unit and our products reside in deep space, low earth orbit, undersea and on the ground. We are also a major supplier to international space programs.    Within the Space Systems LEO (Low Earth Orbit) Value Stream’s Commercial Satellite business, we design and manufacture Active Thermal Control Systems and components for both domestic and foreign satellite manufacturers in both LEO (Low Earth orbit) and GEO (Geosynchronous Orbit) environments.

Project Engineer / IPT Lead – Spacebus Neo Program

The Project Engineering Integrated Product Team (IPT) Lead will provide continuous support of the Spacebus NEO program as the lead project engineer (PE) during the program’s transition to the follow-on production program and continue to provide Lead PE support during the production program. The Spacebus NEO program provides ammonia pump package shipsets to Thales Alenia Space France to be used in the mechanically pumped loop (MPL) of the Spacebus NEO commercial satellite platform.  The successful candidate will be working with the program IPT to finalize non-recurring engineering activities (engineering changes and delta-qualification) on the current program as well as plan, implement and support the successful performance of the follow-on production program.  The IPT lead will report programmatically to the Program Engineering Chief and will play a critical role in being the technical focal to the customer and driving project execution while meeting both internal and external customer expectations.  Candidate will lead diverse project teams in manufacturing (assembly and test) of flight hardware, addressing non-conformances, investigations, supporting customer non-conformance review boards, test readiness reviews, test review boards and delivery review boards.  This role requires strong interpersonal and communication skills, technical experience, and the ability to lead cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities:

As a Project Engineer you will be immersed in the following activities:

  • Coordinating setting team meeting agendas, leading team meetings, and driving action item closures
  • Team activity scope control, including status and corrective action plans to budget challenges
  • Experience with firm fixed price jobs and Earned Value Methodology as there will be Control Account Management (CAM) responsibilities
  • Coordination of engineering change activities
  • Coordination and driving failure investigation activities
  • Driving issue resolution closures due to assembly, test and procurement challenges.

The candidate will drive the execution of all engineering responsibilities on the program while meeting both internal and external customer expectations.  Direct communication with customers will be required – including daily tag-ups, weekly meetings, and quarterly meetings.  This position requires strong interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written), technical experience, and the ability to work as cross-functional team member. 

Basic Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of prior relevant experience OR
  • Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experience OR
  • In absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • PMP Certification desirable
  • Familiarity w/ Windchill PDM Link and SAP desirable
  • Familiarity w/ BMW (Bid Master Web) a plus
