    Job Description:

    Lead and design major components or major portions of functional systems, technically advanced prototypes, and specific products using computer design and engineering systems. Develops or improves products and facilitates manufacturing operations. Develops data and makes parametric models, layouts, sketches, and notes for design proposals. Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replaceability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements and cost.

    The mechanical designer will work with the other disciplines of the Integrated Product Team (IPT) including project, structures, durability, aero-thermal, and product definition. The mechanical designer will also need to interface with other Hot Section Engineering IPTs as well as other departments such as Customer Technical Support, Global Services Engineering, and Product Safety, Certification and Validation & Development Operations to complete these tasks. The candidate could work either commercial or military programs, which will be determined based upon candidate qualifications and program needs. Depending on the phase of the program, the tasks will vary, but may include clean sheet design, delivering development hardware for engine tests, facilitating the delivery of hardware to production engines, processing engineering changes to improve the production configuration, and support of fielded engines.

    Responsibilities:

    • Designs major components or major portions of functional systems, technically advanced prototypes, and specific products using computer design and engineering systems.

    • Lead and execute engineering changes that aim to new hardware design, testing and production.

    • Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replaceability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specifications for requirements and cost.

    • Lead design engineer for investigation of engine field incidents leading to root cause and corrective action.

    • Lead engineer in the development of serviceable and repairable limits for engine part wear.

    • Leads producibility improvement investigations at various vendors.

    • Perform engineering first piece reviews remotely and at vendor locations.

    • Leads the creation of safety risk analysis and develop risk mitigation plans.

    • Present and communicate results to customers and program management

    • Analysis and disposition of quality non-conformances (QNs) for new parts, and supplier requests for information (SRI’s)

    • Review and approval of product definition data (prints and models).

    • Utilize standard work and CORE tools to continuously improve the design process.

    • Participate as a design discipline lead in cross-discipline integrated product teams to provide design solutions that balance performance, cost, schedule, and quality requirements.

    • Develop and incorporate new ways to advance technology and improve processes as an individual and as a team contributor/lead. Embrace a continuous improvement philosophy.

    • Write documentation, as well as to create and provide impactful, persuasive technical presentations to IPT, CIPT and customers.

    • Develop and sustain a healthy work relationship based on mutual trust with peers, internal and external customers where significant interaction is expected

    • Lead resolution of mechanical engineering problems of difficult and complex scope, seeking a balanced system solution, ensuring engineering excellence, among other.

    • Review and approval of product definition data (prints and models).

    • Work with Operations to address production and sustainment issues to facilitate the timely delivery of engines.

    • Work with external customers and present strong technical solutions.

    • Attend and have participation in group meetings, teleconferences and/or training required.

    • Actively participate in initiatives for continuous improvement

    • Based on business needs, the incumbent may be required to support other duties/functions within the company.

    • Lead and mentor others. Support and contribute to the discipline health.

    • Support design community initiatives.

    • Travel up to 10%

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering

    • 8+ years of engineering experience or 5+ years with an advanced degree

    • English fluency (verbal and written)

    • US Citizenship due to government contracts

    • 3D/CAD modeling experience

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Experience working in the Aerospace Industry

    • Experience with Microsoft Office applications

    • Strong mechanical aptitude to understand the interactions of complex assemblies and how to translate those interactions into sound analytical assumptions

    • Previous gas turbine experience

    • Team oriented and cultural awareness. Excellent at promoting teamwork

    • Proficiency in Teamcenter, Unigraphics NX, ANSYS, and classical methods of analysis

    • Excellent communication and presentation skills, interpersonal, time management and organizational skills

    • Experience with GD&T ASME Y14.5M-1994

    • Teamcenter and SAP

    • The ability to build positive relationships
