Job Summary:

As a software engineer on the SPE Effectors team, you will be responsible for applying basic software engineering technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques associated with the C and C++ computer languages for software development. Under general supervision, develop solutions to a variety of challenging technical problems in software development, following established procedures. Collaborate and contribute to the successful completion of software related milestones on projects that include C/C++ software development, design, code, unit test and formal testing. Interact with senior software engineers and support staff on a situational basis. Develop and build knowledge of emerging software technologies. Produce documentation related to the design and release of software artifacts and provide formal and informal presentations to senior software personnel.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:

• Apply expertise in software development for embedded multi-processor systems.

• Provide innovative and creative software solutions to complex technical problems.

• Follow and/or recommend changes to established processes and procedures.

• Review software products for soundness of technical judgment and adequacy.

• Produce documentation related to the design and release of software artifacts.

• Utilize agile software development methods, automation, and continuous integration.

Qualifications You Must Have:

• Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of relevant work experience OR in absence of a degree, 6 years of relevant experience is required. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for additional years of experience. 

• Experience in programming.

• Experience in one or more of the following: data structures and algorithms, systems software design, operating systems and architectures.

• The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Value:

• Masters degree in STEM field. (Preferred Degrees: Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science)

• Experience using scripting languages (e.g., Perl, Python).

• Computer Science classes such as Operating Systems and Compiler Design.

• Electrical Engineering classes related to embedded systems design.
