Collins Aerospace is seeking an Engineer to join our Avionics Reliability Engineering team. Our work supports the development of innovative aviation electronic solutions for one of the world’s leading Aerospace companies. We are in a new era within Aerospace Reliability Engineering, as new technologies require a new approach to addressing long term reliability. This position will afford the opportunity to develop assessment methodologies and pursue research toward fulfilling this need.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Learn reliability engineering processes and how to perform various reliability analyses from a senior reliability engineer (mentor).

  • Perform reliability assessments, which includes reliability predictions of hardware reliability data, to determine Mean time before failure (MTBF) and Mean time before unscheduled removal (MTBUR).

  • Perform electrical component derating analysis to analyze reliability of new hardware designs.

  • Perform Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (FMEA) to identify detected and undetected failure modes of new hardware designs.

  • Develop Reliability enhancement test plans, procedures, and reports.

  • Conduct and oversee Accelerated Lifetime Stress Testing to test new hardware designs and determine environmental limits. Conduct failure root cause and corrective actions investigations. Provide design engineering with input to improve the reliability of new hardware designs.

  • Interface with various engineering groups, including but limited to Safety, Electrical, Systems, Electrical, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineers

  • Perform Neutron Single Event Upset (NSEU) susceptibility analyses.

  • May develop and/or research new reliability engineering analysis and test methods for use with sub-90nm technologies, including multi-core processors, System-on-a-Programmable-Chip (SOPC), various memory technologies and Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA). 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 12 months or less of relevant professional work experience (excluding internships)

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Coursework or experience analyzing electrical/electronic component and semiconductor device specifications.

  • Coursework, or interest in areas like thermodynamics and mechanical vibration effects on electronics.

  • Familiar with Systems engineering concepts.

  • Proficient with MS Excel, Visio and MATLAB.

  • Passion for aerospace systems, avionics and/or aviation.

  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail. 

  • Strong problem-solving skills.

  • Strong technical writing skills.

  • Self-motivated and a quick learner.

  • Effective interpersonal and team collaboration skills.

  • Experience presenting technical information.
