    Job Summary:

    Here at Raytheon Missiles and Defense (RMD), we specialize in air and missile defense, large-land, and sea-based radars, and systems for managing command, control, and communication. Our Software Products Engineering (SPE) team consists of more than 2200 software engineers with a central focus on real-time software development, integration, testing, and validation activities. This is how we do our part in keeping our country safe.

    We are seeking a Section Leader to lead members of our software development team located in Fort Wayne, IN.  Our teams develop software in a variety of languages, primarily C++, C, and Java. This position includes an individual contributor workload where you can expect to work on many if not all the phases of the software development life cycle. In this position, you will be responsible for providing practical solutions to difficult technical software problems. Software Engineering positions include working on a variety of different tasks including real-time software development, application software development, test and verification, data analysis, software tools development, and many others. Teams are organized using Agile scrum methodology.

    Responsibilities to Anticipate:

    • The Section Leader performs management activities and provides leadership for approximately 10-15 software engineers. These activities include technical development of people, providing and identifying appropriate training for people, and performance management.

    • You will team with the Department Leader in the execution of SPE and Raytheon Missile & Defense Engineering goals.

    • You will ensure two-way communication for the section members; serve as the day-to-day liaison to the programs concerning employee job assignments, performance, and recognition.

    • Responsibilities also include coordinating program staffing needs and reductions, and interviewing applicants.

    • Able to lead and participate in the requirements, design, development and testing of application software, and tools, to include development of new work products or enhancement of existing applications and systems.

    • Design, code, test, integrate, and document software solutions.

    • Lead and participate in internal review of software components and systems.

    • Collaborate with project managers and other professionals within Engineering.

    • Follow established development practices and processes to maintain the configuration management of software products.

    Qualifications You Must Have:

    • Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or other STEM related field and a minimum of 8+ year of experience OR in absence of a degree 12 years of experience. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for additional years of experience.

    • Demonstrated success in prior leadership roles.

    • Experience with C++, C, or Java.

    • The ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

    Qualifications We Value:

    • Knowledge of data structures and algorithms, systems software design, operating systems, architectures, software development life cycle and processes.

    • Experience developing software in a team-based development environment, preferably Agile/SCRUM, DevSecOps and test automation.

    • Strong problem-solving and communication skills, including ability to produce technical documentation, and the desire to learn new technologies and tools.

    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with coworkers from diverse communities and cultures.

    • Demonstrated ability to work with colleagues who represent a diversity of work and conflict resolution styles.

    • Experience with EVMS (earned value management systems) or similar
