Senior Additive Manufacturing Process Engineer

The Technology & Engineering organization is comprised of the global engineering function, several focused centers of expertise, and our advanced Research & Development lab – the Research Center. By combining a passion for science with precision engineering, we create smart, sustainable solutions that prove we can do the big things the right way.

The Additive Manufacturing Process and Capability Center (AMPCC) encompasses a critical mass of Additive Manufacturing (AM) process and industrialization experts, the necessary equipment, and develops the strategic collaborations needed to rapidly mature the technology and manufacturing readiness of AM.  The AMPCC is not a production center instead focusing on the development and deployment of additive manufacturing tools and processes for our business units.

The Senior Additive Manufacturing Process Engineer will be responsible for one or more of the following activities as they relate to the AMPCC, including:

• Develop advanced process parameters to enable complex geometries and enhanced material properties required to industrialize aerospace components.
• Investigate the effects of machine variability on build quality and properties of fabricated parts.
• Execute and oversee development builds on various AM machines.
• Develop and define processes which can be standardized for use by our business units.
• As a Subject Matter Expert, support the commissioning, and evaluation of next generation AM equipment.
• Explore the capabilities of advanced tools and equipment to characterize machines and process space.
• Utilize novel sensing methods and data analysis schema to increase process stability and efficiency.
• Improve processes based on characterization results to minimize defects and improve mechanical properties.
• Monitor, troubleshoot and correct issues associated with process or equipment.
• Work closely with design engineers to optimize parts to leverage additive technology.
• Provide input on the Design Standards for new product development
• Utilize data driven analysis to support root cause investigations.

Basic Qualifications:

• Must be able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary, collaborative team environment focused on innovation and have demonstrated both verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong presentation, planning, problem solving, organizational, and project management skills.
• Scripting experience with Matlab, Python, VBA, JavaScript or similar
• Experience with software and tools used in Additive Manufacturing including CAD packages.
• Hands on experience operating, maintaining, and modifying metal laser powder-bed-fusion AM equipment.
• Basic understanding of low voltage sensors and control systems
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Highly self-motivated and able to execute tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrated ability to interface with all levels of management, customers, and suppliers.
• US Citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Possess a strong understanding of engineering principles and hands on experience working with laboratory equipment. 

Education:

• A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience.
• Preferred candidates for this position will have an MS in Mechanical, Chemical, Manufacturing Engineering or related technical field with a minimum 3 years of industrial experience. 
• A PhD with 3+ years of industrial experience is highly preferred.  A minimum 3.5 GPA is desirable.

Typically requires:

• A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years' experience.

Engineering/Other Technical Positions:

• Typically requires a degree in Science,Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
