The Pratt and Whitney North Berwick Engineering Center (NBEC) is currently seeking a Senior Aerothermal Systems Engineer to work commercial and military gas turbine engines.  The NBEC Aerothermal Systems team analyzes and develops the functional characteristics of non-gas-path elements of both turbine and compressor modules; including air systems, thermal response, clearance optimization, bearing integration, heat loading, and efficiency optimization in a highly complex environment.  Truly a systems role with deep technical skills to deploy cutting edge tools in computational fluid dynamics (CFD), proprietary codes, component testing in rigs, and design, execution, and analysis of full-scale engine testing.   

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering and 5+ years prior relevant experience in the following discipline areas:  CFD, FEA, and heat transfer or An Advanced Degree in a related field and 3+ years prior relevant experience in the following discipline areas:  CFD, FEA, heat transfer.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a https://U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
  • https://U.S. citizenship is required, as only https://U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
  • Travel up to 10%.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active https://U.S. government issued security clearance.
  • Experience in Solid Modeling / Finite Element Modeling / CFD.
  • Experience in computer programming: Perl, VBA, C++, Python, MATLAB, etc
  • Experience in Optimization, Statistics Manufacturing methods
  • Experience with a range of modern thermal-fluid analytical tools used in the gas turbine industry, including ANSYS Classic/Workbench, Fluent/CFX, and NX prep/post. 
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral, with key examples of projects completed and documented through formal written and oral means.  (https://e.g. publications, reports, detailed briefings).
