Responsible for identifying, down-selecting, qualifying, and documenting within the applicable specifications of materials & processes which offer cost / weight / quality improvements to the composite products we engineer for use within the aircraft interior. In addition, there will also be a requirement to providing technical support to internal and external composite manufacturing facilities.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and support initiatives to identify and develop new or improved materials/processes/fabrication and assembly techniques, and associated data development for the design, manufacture and certification of composite panels.
- Conduct qualification of composite components and structures, and allowable activities for the composite panels and structures.
- Collaborate with the Integrated Product Team on new programs/products to ensure all appropriate deliverables are achieved on time and the product developed satisfies all production requirements.
- Create, revise and review project-related Statements of Work, Material and Process Specifications, test and qualification documents, design data and qualification/substantiation data.
- Assesses industry trends and opportunities for new technologies and implements investigative research and development initiatives to advance competitive designs.
- Support the bid process for new programs through process selection, the development of recurring and non-recurring costs and identify tooling requirements.
- Works with Business Development to meet customers product needs through innovation and problem solving.
- Identify, support, and implement cost saving, quality improvement and Lean initiatives.
- Support the activities related to material review board and engineering change analysis.
- Lead root cause and corrective action problem solving projects in a team environment.
- Contribute to the culture of continuous improvement within the department.
- Any other duties as required to support business needs.

Basic Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Material Science (or related) and a minimum of five years’ working or research experience within the area of composites
- Advanced degree in Engineering or Material Science (or related) and a minimum of three years’ working or research experience within the area of composites
- In the absence of a degree in Engineering or Material Science (or related) a minimum of nine years’ working or research experience within the area of composites
Preferred Requirements
- A minimum of three years working or research experience in material characterization and mechanical testing.
- A minimum of two years’ working or three years’ research experience with material qualification and the generation of design allowable.
- A minimum of three years’ working experience in composite honeycomb sandwich panels gained within an Engineering or Manufacturing environment.
- A minimum of two years working or research experience in aerospace certification.
- A minimum of one years working or research experience in the flammability of materials.

The salary range for this role is 75,000 USD - 161,000 USD; however, Raytheon Technologies considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
