At Pratt & Whitney, the difference you make is on display every day. Just look up. Are you ready to go beyond?
The Pratt & Whitney Engineering organization is focused on delivering customer requirements, advancing market-differentiating technologies, leading continuous improvement, and developing technical leadership. The Mechanical Systems, Externals and Nacelles (MSEN) Engineering Module Center is responsible for design, validation, manufacture, and delivery of most of the engine hardware. This includes external plumbing, components, and ducts, Lubrication and Thermal Management Systems, the rotor support hardware including bearings, seals, oil tanks and pumps and complex castings.
The MSEN organization is seeking a goal oriented, detail-focused Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join the Operational Military Engines / Operational Commercial Engine / F135 (OME/OCE/F135) Mechanical Systems and Externals design team. Working on inter-disciplinary teams, the selected candidate will perform mechanical design of gas turbine engine hardware. The person in this position shall be based at our East Hartford, CT site.
In this position you will be in a fast-paced environment, working with experienced design engineers on preliminary design, detail design and sustainment activities. You’ll learn about what is required in the overall design process of parts for engines including new and existing designs. All design work will utilize UG-NX solid modeling as well as other modeling and analysis tools. Our team routinely interfaces with other disciplines including structures, project, and product definition.
Develop technically sound design solutions within program schedule milestones that meet cost and weight goals.
Understand technical processes and design requirements of gas turbine Mechanical Systems hardware including bearing compartments, seals and housings, as well as Externals hardware including plumbing and ducting systems, component mounts, sheet metal brackets and electrical harnesses.
Learn and apply sophisticated solid modeling and analysis tools in a highly proficient manner.
Utilize standard work and CORE/ACE tools to continuously improve the externals design process.
Support the development and implementation of AGILE for task management and progress tracking.
Communicate with team leadership and management on status and risks to program schedule and metrics (cost, weight, performance, etc.).
Execute design process following Engineering Standard Work (ESW) and Engineering Knowledge System (EKS). Report compliance and deviations.
