    The Collins Aerospace Avionics Platform Software Department is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to join our leadership team.  We are looking for a motivated individual to lead a group of engineers who are critical in our department’s certification, process, and bid/pursuit activities.  The ideal candidate must have proven experience leading civil-certified avionics software development teams.

    The candidate we are seeking is a strong, passionate leader with an action-oriented, collaborative mindset, who operates with a vision, delivers benefits to meet/exceed expectations, builds and enhances her/his teammates, evaluates and takes action on the performance of self and others, proactively plans for teammates’ and customers’ needs, all while operating with full integrity. 

    Primary responsibilities:

    • Technical leadership for a group of software engineers to ensure commitments are met
    • Lead the department in ensuring all development projects meet the needs of applicable avionics certification and process requirements
    • Lead change initiatives; identify and implement creative, compliant ways to balance the cost of change with engineering value
    • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to understand program needs & challenges; lead the team to generate and execute plans which deploy appropriate solutions
    • Lead and execute the department’s bid and pursuit efforts
    • Work in a dynamic environment, where juggling current commitments and generating innovative plans for the future are the norm

    Basic Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of prior relevant experience OR
    • Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years’ experience OR
    • In absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience is required
    • Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws / regulations.
    • US citizen/green card holder
    • Full-time, located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Leadership experience in avionics software development & certification (civil-certified projects under DO-178C)
    • Proven track record of successful project execution leadership, while meeting cost, schedule, scope, and quality commitments
    • Possess a collaborative way of working, particularly in a matrix environment
    • Demonstrated success in balancing business needs and affordability
    • Strong written & oral communicator and change agent; able to interface with the spectrum of individual contributors to executive leadership
    • Experience leading teams within the Agile methodology

    Open to hybrid and onsite candidates.
