Position summary

Collins Aerospace is looking for a passionate Senior Engineering Manager to provide technical excellence in the fast paced Cabin Systems market. You will be involved in all stages of the product development life-cycle across various products. Tasks will include leading a team to develop system and software requirements, design, and product testing.

You will work with customers and team members in a technologically advanced and challenging field supporting the development of new features and functionality across multiple products ranging from: Netflix like streaming service, wireless technology, Android/IOS App development, 3D Graphics, Embedded Java development, graphical user interface development with emphasis on user experience, cabin entertainment systems and helping to bridge consumer electronics to the aerospace industry. This is a Hybrid position located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A comprehensive relocation package is available for those who need to relocate to the Cedar Rapids area.

Responsibilities:

  • The Senior Engineering Manager will lead a team of engineers in the development of new and exciting cabin and connectivity solutions. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Leadership and management of Systems and Software development activities from detailed requirements development through test and certification.
  • Acquires and develops Systems and Software Engineers, building a strong team of motivated and passionate talent.
  • Oversee development work being performed by our third party partners or subcontract labor.
  • Responsible for program performance for cognizant projects and tactical execution of day to day operations.
  • Approves work scope for assigned portion of overall program.
  • Ensures compliance to development processes and standard work requirements.
  • Oversees and participates in development of engineering bids to ensure success.
  • May serve as the primary engineering focal point to our customers.
  • Assigns technical resources to work assignments.
  • Selecting, onboarding and training of new team members.
  • Development and technical coaching of team members.
  • Actively addressing employee performance and development issues.
  • Identifying the necessary staff, facilities and equipment needed for successful execution of projects.
  • Expected to spend at least 50% of their time in a direct hands-on technical role.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of prior relevant experience OR
  • Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years’ experience OR
  • In absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience is required
  • Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws / regulations.
  • Strong technical, leadership and organizational skills.
  • Project Management experience - project cost, schedule, and scope management.
  • Experience coaching or mentoring in a formal or informal setting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A development background in systems or software

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with aircraft cabin systems product development
  • Experience with networking, distributed computing, client server applications, network security, and digital rights management
  • Experience leading software development that is consumer or mobile-based and have a UX user experience background
  • Experience with leading multi-geographic and ethnically diverse development teams.
  • Experience with Agile development, Lean, and Six Sigma
  • Experience with all phases of the Product development life cycle
  • Experience with mobile application (iOS or Android) software development experience
  • Experience with aircraft electronics systems definition, modification and installation
  • Experience with system integration and testing
  • Ability to interface with Executive Managers, Program Managers and Operations Managers across all business areas within Collins Aerospace
