Collins Aerospace has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Manufacturing Engineer, Automation.  We’re looking for a passionate professional to accept a high level of responsibility within a fast-paced, dynamic environment. 

The work associated with this position will be performed onsite in Rockford, IL.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Drive Continuous Improvement through process improvements to improve cycle time, reduce ergonomic risk to assemblers, automate, reduce costs (both direct and indirect) using CORE principles and data driven decision making.

• Application of state-of-the-art technology, methods, equipment, and adapts machine or equipment design to conform to standard factory and production procedures.

• Learn the operation and programming of all assigned equipment.

• Provide real-time technical support to manufacturers and fabricators, in-house as well as the supply base.

• Makes changes in assembly processes, equipment procedures, and design specifications to solve equipment and manufacturing problems.

• Learn to use the appropriate metrology tools required by assigned processes.

• Use data analytics/SPC for productivity, First Pass Yield and OEE targets and improvements.

• Manages medium to large scale projects from initial concept to full implementation across multiple facilities.

• Develop and implement cost savings projects, new technology, materials, new products, and processes to reduce scrap, rework and repair.

• Plans sequence of operations and specification procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment and other functions that affect product performance.

• Maximizes efficiency by analyzing layout of equipment, workflow, assembly methods, and work force utilization.

• Maintain production documentation on each process, including manufacturing documents and production process routings.

• Participates and contributes on PFMEA and Control Plans.

• Provides guidance for engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.

• Draft and execute CAPEX spending plan and tracking tool for and maintain green rating for all metrics related to CAPEX.

• Generate and monitor to closure all CAPEX projects per the plan, including capital and expensed AR’s and new equipment requests by site.

• Participate in LEAN Manufacturing Events as appropriate for functional area of responsibility which includes contributing to Visual Management & Control, Layout, Flow & Linkage and Standard Work relating to Franchise Approach

• Performs other duties or responsibilities as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

• Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience.

• U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Manufacturing/Operations, Engineering and/or Quality/Supplier Quality experience is preferred.

• New technology development, implementation, project execution phases, and customer support.

• Leading change implementation and change management to ensure stakeholder buy-in.

• PLC Programming language (earned certificates)

• Robotic programing languages (ex: ABB, FANUC, UR)

• Equipment integration and start up headwinds.

• IT/ Data systems and integration

• PFMEA documentation, PPAP requirements, and AS9100 standards.

• Developing HMI architecture for machine controls.   

• Implementing robust SCADA systems.

• Installing and programing vision systems (ex: Keyence, Cognex)

• Working in cross-functional teams with operations, maintenance, quality, test, and design to implement robust processes.
