Collins Aerospace is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer, NC Programming to support the fabrication of advanced composite structures used on commercial and military platforms. The responsible engineer for this position will create numerically controlled (NC) programs for custom CNC machines and robots, including automated fiber placement, 5 & 6 mills, and robotic cells. Creation of NC programs will focus on quality, cycle time reduction, and cost reduction to support company goals. This is a production-oriented position operating in a manufacturing shop environment and the ideal candidate will have experience working on a shop floor.

Primary Responsibilities
Applies scientific principles to innovate, design, develop, and implement technologies, components, sub-systems, machines, tools, and systems to ensure compliance to specifications, requirements, and customer guarantees across applicable operating conditions.
Will lead the NC group to utilize fundamentals, CORE, and advanced methods to optimize and standardized NC programs across the site.
Analyze operations information and make the appropriate changes to equipment, processes or documentation to solve problems, improve efficiency and part quality.
Work alongside a multi-discipline team of engineers on a variety of tasks related to composite component manufacture.
Preparation and development of numerical programs used to drive NC and CNC equipment/machines/robots with minimal supervision.
Interpret technical drawings and 3D models
Use Catia and CAD/CAM software to model cutting paths, program machines accordingly and simulate part programs
Create inspection programs to ensure products meet design specifications
Adjust machine cutting paths or settings to optimize production while maintaining quality
Consider tools required to cut materials and program machines accordingly
Liaises closely with manufacturing, quality and operations in the planning, design, development and utilization of NC programs
Creates work instructions for machinists to load/unload machined parts onto CNC equipment and specify cutters used to machine parts.
Interface with operations team from various value streams for communication on new program requests and immediate needs. Develop and manage NC program schedule.
Ensures sequences in manufacturing processes and product builds are followed and comply with Environmental Health & Safety and Quality requirements.
Investigates root cause of process failures or quality issues and develops go-forward approach.
Uses data analytics / statistical process control (SPC) for productivity, First Pass Yield (FPY) and business unit targets and improvement.
Engages in problem solving initiatives & challenges status quo (e.g., root cause and corrective action investigations, OEE, FPY, customer escapes)
Interfaces with fellow manufacturing engineers, structures design engineers, engineering management, operations, shop floor personnel, and external vendors. Works with other senior manufacturing technical staff in cross-discipline technical initiatives involving design, quality, equipment, testing, Material Review Board (MRB) and Materials & Process engineers.
Contributes on Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) and control build plans.
Identifies opportunities on drawings and specifications to influence changes to engineering designs and line balancing.
Participates in tool design reviews to ensure tools are feasible for automated equipment.
Involved in process improvement and continuous improvement activities. Implements results of lean manufacturing initiatives.
Implements process improvements by applying various engineering applications such as: robotics, automation and simulation.
Participates in digital manufacturing solutions with support from digital subject matter experts
Reads and interprets material and process specifications, engineering drawings, technical reports, manuals, and work instructions.
Adaptation of machine or equipment design to factory and production conditions
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations
Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
Current experience in robotic programming
Experienced and knowledgeable in using CATIA V5/V6, 3DExperience Software Suite & CATIA’s Composite Workbench
Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to multitask, problem solve, and manage resources along with effective time management and organizational skills.
Intermediate knowledge and experience of various operation software and MS Office software.
Robotics and Automation – basics
Command and knowledge using MS Office software
Six Sigma – Understanding level
Project Management – Basic understanding
