Job Description:

Pratt & Whitney (PW) is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – Static Parts Family.  This Design role is within the Engineering Support to Operations (ESTO) organization.  The ESTO organization has the broad charter of making product design improvements and supporting Operations and the worldwide supplier base during PW’s unprecedented ramp-up in commercial jet engine production.  You will have front line exposure and visibility to Operations and Supply Chain in terms of relationships, collaboration, and developing real-world solutions for how to produce the world’s most advanced engineered parts.  You will be allowed to grow into the position - to be fully supported on that growth path with education, support, training, mentorship, and collaboration opportunities with industry experts. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with a team of outsource engineers in providing Material Review Board (MRB) dispositions to Quality Notifications (QN’s) involving non-conformances to parts under your responsibility.
  • Lead Cost of Poor-Quality initiatives and producibility improvement tasks.  Empowered to challenge current process and procedures to identify areas for improvement. 
  • Update engineering drawings to better communicate requirements or to expand tolerances to resolve production issues (Class II engineering changes)
  • Eliminate repeat analysis through proactively addressing repeat QNs.
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams to address various production improvement opportunities (Operations, Quality, Procurement, and engineering discipline Subject Matter Experts (SME’s)).
  • Support Stop Delivery Orders (SDO’s) and Fielded Part Notification (FPN) investigations that involve high visibility opportunities with P&W upper management.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering and 5 years of engineering experience or an advanced engineering degree and 3 years of engineering experience
  • https://U.S. citizenship is required, as only https://U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering
  • Design and manufacturing experience working in the aerospace industry
  • Proficiency in Unigraphics (or other 3D CAD software), Teamcenter (or other Product Lifecycle Management software), SAP (or other ERP software)
  • Understanding of hardware, blueprints, advanced tolerancing (ANSI https://Y14.5), and manufacturing methods.

Travel: Less than 25%
