Raytheon Intelligence & Space (RIS) is the provider of advanced electrical scanned antenna (AESA) radar sensor systems for multiple platforms including: the U.S. Navy’s F/A-18 Aircraft, the Air Force’s F/A-15 Aircraft, and the Gen 5.x Family of Systems (FOS) Radars for multiple platforms. These AESA Radar Systems provide the war fighter with the most accurate and timely information available for the network-centric battlefield. The Secured Sensor Solutions Mission Area within the Systems Engineering Center is seeking committed engineering leaders who are passionate about creating innovative and cost-effective solutions for the warfighter. The Future Aircraft Systems and Technology Department within SEIT supports the development of new capabilities for existing radar systems as well as development of Next-Generation Radar Systems for the US Government. This department provides the full range of systems design, analysis, integration, verification, and validation activities in support of SAS radar programs.
Primary Responsibilities:
The section manager (SM) performs direct line management activities for 10-20 engineers responsible for System Engineering, Mode Development, Design Architecting, Requirements Development, Analysis, and Test for airborne Radar programs.
The SM is a key technical contributor to the programs supported by the section, as well as a central contributor to new business development activities. The SM activities include career development, performance evaluation, and management of their people, resource acquisition and allocation, championing best engineering practices, actively engaging with programs to facilitate and ensure proper execution, and development of proposals.
The SM ensures two-way communication for section members, serves as a liaison to the programs ensuring technical, cost and schedule parameters, as well as overseeing section member job assignments, performance and recognition.
The SM’s technical contributions to programs may include:
Technical team leadership to perform requirements development, mode development, analysis, or integration and test activities.
Technical team leadership for a team of engineers in the development and implementation of Software Analysis tools applied to Radar Sensor products
Participation in peer reviews throughout the product lifecycle of design, development, integration and test, and requirements verification
Lead Root Cause Analysis utilizing Raytheon Technologies Best Practices (R6Sigma) and Tools to identify and analyze Radar System anomalies
Design and development of mathematical algorithms for mode/sensor implementation
Design and development of radar waveforms for imaging, target search, track and identification
Lead development and maturation of fault tabulation and prediction tools utilizing Matlab, Python, Excel, etc.
Perform technical and programmatic presentations to both internal and external customers
Develop and maintain all program requirements for airborne Radar Sensor Programs
Lead/support the development and flow down of systems requirements, error budget trees, and performance modeling, simulation and analysis
Lead/support design reviews, test/production readiness reviews, gate reviews, trade studies and other program/customer reviews, as required, to keep the team on track
Lead/support business proposals and ROMs, as required by the programs
Provide cost and schedule estimates/impacts for proposed engineering changes or BOEs
Support the professional development of team members and ensure senior technical personnel "pass on" knowledge to more junior personnel
Required Skills:
Minimum of 10 years of Systems Engineering experience
Understanding of Airborne Radar systems and their principles of design, development, requirements verification, test planning, test execution, data analysis, and operations support
Experience in preparing and delivering briefings to management and customers
Capable of effectively working in a team environment, often under tight deadlines
Demonstrated desire to successfully pursue new challenges, improve and broaden technical skills, seek greater responsibilities, and increase individual value to the organization
Familiarity with the execution of technical reviews (SRRs, PDRs, CDRs, TIMS) and Independent Reviews (IRs) for gates
Leadership
Communication, integrity, judgment, coordination, influence
Actively engages, drives change to achieve execution excellence and solve critical issues
Examples of leading a technical team in development efforts
Mentoring and providing career development direction to junior engineers
Must have an existing Active Secret and have ability to readily obtain Special Access security clearances
U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance as of day one of employment
Desired Skills:
Radar system architecture, Design, Hardware Integration, and Test.
Analysis which predicts overall system performance, error margins and performance budgets (link budget)
Experience in hardware and software integration of embedded, real-time complex systems
Proposal development and authoring technical volumes
Technical mentoring as subject matter expert in Radar Systems
Experience as a IV&V Lead or Technical Lead on a previous program
Required Education: BS Degree in Engineering, Physics, Math, System Engineering or related discipline.
Desired Education: MS Degree in Engineering, Physics, Math, System Engineering or related discipline.
U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance as of day one of employment.
