Position summary

This position is for an experienced Systems Engineer in a senior level role within the Connected Aviation Solutions strategic business unit helping to drive the highly visible Connected Ecosystem strategic initiative. This person will lead development of work methods, develop the overall systems strategy, provide support and guidance to various technical teams, and approve common work practices.  This individual will work to develop technology modernization and systems integration roadmaps for complex networks, infrastructure, and data management services.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work with internal and external customers to understand needs, capture originating requirements and establish MIRs.

  • Develop technical solutions that meet or exceed the customer’s needs for the most demanding and complex projects.

  • Make appropriate tradeoffs between cost, schedule, and scope while satisfying the needs of internal and external stakeholders.

  • Decompose customer specifications and system level requirements into sub-system and piece part requirements.

  • Guide complex engineering system development over the full product life cycle including concept, design, fabrication, modeling, test, installation, validation, operation, maintenance’ and disposal to ensure successful outcomes.

  • Establish plans and strategy for requirements management and coordination of all teams involved in large projects.

  • Ensure corporate life cycle management processes (e.g., Collins Management System) are adhered to and provide recommendations for streamlining processes.

  • Develop and deliver global programs with international stakeholders within a matrixed functional organization.

  • Recommend investments or changes in technology, resources, procedures, equipment, systems, or other assets to improve the quality of the organization’s projects.

  • Perform technical planning, including cost estimations and schedule development with acknowledgement of risks and opportunities.

  • Consider and evaluate alternative solutions with directed trade studies.

  • Willingness to travel approximately 20%.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of prior relevant experience OR

  • Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience OR

  • In absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience is required

  • Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

  • Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance.  Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements

  • Minimum (5) years of aerospace/aviation domain experience. 

  • Experience with the following technologies and disciplines, cloud computing, data science, web-based applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of project management. Advanced knowledge of related disciplines within work area and identify links and potential impact on projects, programs, or systems.

Remote: Employees who are working in Remote roles will work primarily offsite (from home).  An employee may be expected to travel to the site location as needed.
