Collins Aerospace has an exciting opportunity for a Project Engineer.  We’re looking for a passionate professional to accept a high level of responsibility within a fast-paced, dynamic environment.  The project engineer is the conductor of the orchestra, assuring all technical, financial, and programmatic disciplines are working cohesively to design, develop, test, and validate our product for use on military aircrafts and rotorcrafts. The responsibility for this position is to work within a domestic Integrated Project Discipline (IPD) team to oversee and coordinate the execution of the development, design, production, and certification testing for our future military jet engine pneumatic valves. This role does require frequent work within a secure facility and will require a US Government issued Secret level security clearance in order to start.

Must be a commutable distance from Windsor Locks, CT to work a hybrid schedule reporting on-site as needed.  Eligible for relocation.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Component IPD Lead – Responsible for requirements management, component conception, development, design, definition, supplier detail procurement, manufacture, inspection, and qualification of assigned parts. Closely working with a multifunctional team assuring that defined requirements and milestones are met and risks are identified and mitigated.
  • Component Development Schedule – Maintain detailed schedule and resource plan which accurately outlines all tasks required to assure that all program and product development milestones are met.
  • Product Requirements – Review customer requirements with the IPD team to assure that requirements are explicit, accurate, and achievable.  Work with Design, Structures, and Systems Engineering to address any revisions required to assure that all requirements are met and verified or where requirements cannot be met, identify issues, risks, and obtain deviations.
  • Design Definition – Work with the IPD team, especially design, drafting, structures, manufacturing, and Quality to assure that design layouts and detail drawings are completed on plan and that drawing release supports manufacturing lead times to assure parts will be delivered to plan.
  • Financial Performance – Act as the Cost Account Manager (CAM) to manage the assigned component budget, earned value and identify and report any issues or changes in scope that would impact meeting the assigned budget or schedule.
  • Technology Readiness Level (TRL) – Where new technology is being considered and developed, work on a multifunctional local & international team responsible for the evaluation of the product’s TRL level and execution of a plan to attain the appropriate technology readiness level per program requirements.
  • Hardware Procurement and Manufacture – Work with IPD team to assure detail procurement is kicked-off, assembly tooling and production definition are completed in time to assure hardware delivery milestones are met.
  • Component Qualification Testing – Lead activities associated with component hardware verification testing. Includes requirements review and preparation of detailed test procedures and qualification by similarity and analysis reports. Work with selected test facility (internal or external) to assure that test rigs and instrumentation meet requirements of test procedures. Manage definition and fabrication of any test fixtures and tooling. Completion of test readiness reviews. Facilitation of pre-test hardware inspections and delivery of test hardware to test facility. On-site oversight of test rig assembly, testing, test data review as well as verification of post-test acceptance criteria. Ownership of post-test hardware inspection and generation and customer submittal of test reports.

Qualifications/Experience Needed:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience.
  • Active and transferable https://U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date. 
  • https://U.S. citizenship is required, as only https://U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

  • Strong technical writing skills

  • Strong mastery of MS Office products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Project)
