Position summary

In the last few years, you might have seen several amazingly beautiful images on social media of the Earth from space in exquisite detail, or perhaps images in the news forecasting the weather and reporting on natural disasters. Maybe you’ve even gazed at these images from deep space wondering when humans will journey to the farthest reaches of the universe. Behind many of these amazing images are the technologies and innovations created by the engineers at Raytheon Intelligence and Space (RIS).  Our RIS El Segundo campus is situated in sunny Southern California, a location rich in aerospace history, we have unparalleled heritage in advanced sensing systems for space exploration, national security, and civil space programs.

Job Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior RF Engineer - Design, Integration, and Validation of Test Equipment to join the Space Test Automation team at our El Segundo, California campus to further help evolve our technology and grow our business into new domains and markets. In this role you will be responsible for the design, development, assembly, Integration & Test (I&T), and validation of RF Special Test Equipment (STE) for Space hardware and remote sensing applications.

The ideal candidate for this position is passionate about advances in technology, has an innovative mindset, dedicated to catalyzing continuous improvements, and enjoys proactive interaction and collaboration with multiple engineering teams and functional disciplines.

Security Clearance Requirement: The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret Security Clearance is required.  U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a Security Clearance.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires 5 years of technical experience with RF and/or Digital systems
  • Experience working in an engineering laboratory transitioning from design to production / manufacturing performing STE hardware, software, & firmware integration and test activities through creating assembly procedures and test plans
  • Test equipment applications experience, including Phase Noise Analyzer (PNA), Spectrum Analyzer, RF Signal Generator, Power Meter, Oscilloscope, Power Supplies, etc.
  • Generate Electrical Interconnect Diagrams (EICDs),  Electrical component / RF test equipment drawings, schematics, rack layouts, and/or Design Under Test (DUT) test fixtures
  • Work collaboratively in an Integrated Product Team environment
  • Contribute, create and/or present design, manufacturing, integration, and test throughout the engineering product lifecycle to internal and external stakeholders

Qualifications We Value:

  • Defense Space Systems experience
  • Demonstrated ability to perform test equipment troubleshooting and failure diagnosis
  • Knowledge of environmental test methods and practices for Space Hardware
  • Experience with supporting formal reviews such as Test Readiness Review (TRR) and/or Manufacturing Readiness Review (MRR)
  • Experience in test equipment calibration, instrumentation, and environmental stimulus application (vibration and thermal profiles)
  • Understanding of Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) computer architecture, interconnect/interfaces, and standard communication protocols
  • Experience developing embedded software or firmware
  • C++, Python, LabVIEW, LabVIEW FPGA, or related programming experience
  • Electronic packaging design and integration experience
  • Experience supporting the design and/or directly participating in the development of low-to-medium complexity Circuit Card Assemblies (CCAs)
  • Familiar with standard engineering industry tools / applications, including Visio, Mentor Graphics, AutoCAD and/or Test Stand

Education:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science,Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
