Pratt & Whitney Hot Section Engineering Support to Operations (HSE ESTO) is seeking a self-motivated and detail-focused Senior Structures Engineer support the production of commercial and military hot section rotating and airfoil components – blades/vanes or rotor/shaft hardware depending on the candidate’s proficiency, experience, and career interests. The Senior Structures Engineer will serve as the structures discipline focal point within integrated product teams (IPT). This engineer is expected to execute structural assessments and oversee day-to-day activities for production support, proactive producibility improvement tasks, supporting critical quality issues, supplier transitions, and Class 2 Engineering Changes. Candidates will have the opportunity to build proficiency, decision-making ability, and gain exposure to a variety of commercial and military hot section hardware.
Role classification is Hybrid. A minimum 2 days/week on-site presence in East Hartford, CT, USA is required.
Key Responsibilities:
Responsible for independent execution of quality non-conformance structural assessments of commercial & military hot section components using hand calculations, 2D and 3D finite element modeling, the latest P&W Engineering Standard Work, analytical tools, and engineering judgement.
Provide support for production and engine deliveries as needed.
Take ownership of assigned tasks and drives timely execution by overseeing structural analyses to meet task and schedule requirements.
Forecast resource planning for both PW and outsource needs.
Participate in cross-discipline integrated product teams to provide solutions that balance performance, cost, schedule, and quality requirements.
Develop on structural analysis solutions when historical solutions are not available or applicable.
Support proactive initiatives to improve producibility and reduce the cost of poor quality.
Oversee and mentor outsource engineers to maintain outsource technical quality and grow their proficiency.
Travel up to 10%.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or in a related field and 5+ years of relevant engineering experience, OR
Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace. Engineering or in a related field and 3+ years of relevant engineering experience.
Work schedule: Hybrid.
US Person Status required due to government contracts.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace. Engineering, or related Engineering field
Proficiency with MS Office.
Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills with the ability to develop effective working relationships.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
Participation in process improvement initiatives.
Clear and concise communicator with emphasis on tailoring to appropriate audience.
Capable of handling multiple tasks across various hardware and engine programs at a time.
Demonstrated success working effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment.
Aerospace manufacturing experience.
Proficient with P&W proprietary tools and Engineering Standard Work.
Ability to propose innovative solutions to complex engineering challenges.
