The Mechanical Systems, Externals, and Nacelles (MSEN) is looking for an experienced Senior Structures Engineer (P3) to perform structural analysis on military engine programs. Responsibilities of the position include performing structural analyses to demonstrate durability and structural integrity of MSEN components, participating on multi-disciplined integrated product teams, and presenting analysis results to both PW leadership and customer representatives. Hardware to be analyzed includes bearing compartments, gearboxes, lube pumps, oil tanks, tubes, mount brackets, and ducts. Moreover, the responsibilities include performing of engine test data reduction and providing as needed on-site or remote engine test coverage.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform structural analysis in support of all phases of product life cycle including preliminary design, detailed design, development testing and validation, certification, delivery support, and post engine production & service support.
Monitor MSEN component health during engine validation testing (engine and rig), perform test data-reduction and analysis, and confirm test objectives are met.
Support field investigations.
Use finite element analysis and classical methods to evaluate for strength, deflection, vibration, fatigue life, and damage tolerance.
Participate as the structure’s representative on multi-discipline teams to provide design solutions that balance customer requirements for durability, performance, cost, and weight.
Work to advance technology and improve engineering standard work processes/methods.
Document analysis results and present conclusions to PW management and external customers.
Travel less than 10%
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 5+ years of Engineering experience, OR Advanced degree and 3+ years of relevant experience.
U.S. Citizenship is required due to government contracts.
Mechanical, Aerospace or Civil Engineering degree strongly preferred.
Aerospace or Turbofan Engine industry experience highly preferred.
Proficiency in structural finite element methods, hand-calculations, and use of ANSYS.
Continuous Improvement experience, and/or LEAN, CORE, ACE, Six-Sigma training.
Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office, SAP, and other business software.
Strong communication and task coordination skills.
