    Position Role Type:

    This role is a shared resource test technician role to perform Composite Materials/Flammability/Structural testing. The technician will assist in setup and execution of static/abuse testing on full size interior monuments. The technician will also perform routine laboratory tests to determine physical, mechanical and flammability characteristics of composite honeycomb sandwich panels and other thermoplastic/adhesive materials for such purposes as quality control, process control or product development by performing the following duties:

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Read technical test plans and execute mechanical, flammability and structural tests in accordance with those test plans
    • Execute general test equipment maintenance (changing load cells/test fixtures)
    • Recording test data using calipers and other precision equipment, complete laboratory reports and test data logs
    • Prepare composite coupons using hand and power tools (dremel, saws, drills, etc)
    • Assist fabrication/assembly of test fixtures for full height and half height interior monuments use above listed tools as well as manual mills and manual lathes
    • Must be able to lift 30 lbs minimum

    Basic Qualifications:

    • AA/AS degree (or other 2-year post high school training) with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience OR
    • In the absence of a HS diploma, GED or AA/AS degree, 8 years of relevant experience is required OR
    • A Bachelor’s degree in the appropriate discipline and less than 2 years of relevant experience.
    • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. Collins Aerospace will not offer sponsorship for this position.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience with composites is a bonus
    • Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical systems is a bonus
    • Experience with materials testing utilizing an Instron/Shimano/United load frame is a bonus
    • Experience with aerospace (specifically aerospace testing) is a bonus
    • Experience with using torque wrenches, calipers, and other precision measuring equipment is a bonus
    • Experience with rigging and bridge crane use is a bonus
    • Experience doing static/abuse/cycle testing is a bonus
    • Experience with LabView is a bonus
    • Language Skills: Intermediate English required, Advanced preferred
    • Mathematical Skills: Basic required, Intermediate preferred
    • Reasoning Skills/Abilities: Intermediate level required, uses logical and practical approach to solve problems
    • Computer Skills: MS Office (Word, Excel) – Intermediate user proficiency preferred
    • Ability to effectively communicate (in writing or verbally), presenting information individually or in small group situations to internal or external customers
    • Ability to follow directions ensuring the end results are accurate and completed with the required timeframe
    • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
    • Ability to work independently and under moderate supervision
    • Experience with metal/wood fabrication
    • Team player attitude, customer care focus
    • Willing to comply with all company and site EH&S policies and wear all required PPE (mask, gloves, safety glasses, safety shoes, hard hats, hearing protection, etc)
    • Safety Toe shoes required
    • Comfortable with working on ladders, elevated platforms no higher than 20’ and comfortable with fall protection
    • Willing to use basic solvents like acetone; may be working with paint and various glues; willing to handle lead shot and ingots with gloves
