Position summary

In January 2021, Collins Aerospace expanded a new Global Engineering Center (GEC) facility in Puerto Rico, with plans to hire up to 250 employees over the next 5 years at our Aguadilla site.

Join our growing engineering team in Puerto Rico, where you will provide critical support to Collins SBUs – including our Avionics teams – working on exciting programs and projects ranging from the development of the next generation of advanced concept ejection seats to the latest technologies for the U.S. warfighter.

This position is for an experienced Software Engineer professional developing a software engineering pipeline for Military Avionics programs. Teams are comprised of cross-functional engineers working in an Agile environment (approximately 6-10 people) focused on the design and development of avionics products. This job is focused on the technical aspects of product development related to architecture as well as the design and development process. Expectations include leading technical decisions that align with the highest standards in quality while maintaining a diverse product line portfolio and customer contracts.

  • Please consider the following role type definitions as you apply for this role.
  • Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.
  • Hybrid: Employees who are working in Hybrid roles will work regularly both onsite and offsite.  Ratio of time working onsite will be determined in partnership with your leader.
  • Remote: Employees who are working in Remote roles will work primarily offsite (from home).  An employee may be expected to travel to the site location as needed.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support the development of an FMS team to work on the development and deployment of complex military avionics systems applications.
  • Designing and developing of the FMS Software Engineering pipeline will involve:
    • Strong Technical Skills specifically in software application development.
    • Perform basic systems activities (interface updates, script updates)
    • Demonstrated time management skills and the ability to work unsupervised, multi-task, and coordinate work
    • Demonstrated management of the relationship between cost and value
    • Succeed while leading in a team environment  

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or Computer Science
  • Prior relevant/related experience
    • Entry level: 2 years of experience
    • Mid level: 5 years of experience
    • Sr level: 8 yrs of experience
  • Software Development experience
  • Coding language experience preferred in Ada, C, or Simulink
  • Effective communication and presentation skills in English (verbal and written).
  • Candidate must be a U.S Citizen.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Industry experience required in DO178B/C, Software Verification, Python scripting
  • Tool experience preferred in DOORs, Subversion
  • Industry experience preferred in Agile, Avionics
