We design and manufacture the Next Generation Space Suit, Environmental Control and Life Support Systems (ECLSS) and Active Thermal Control Systems (ATCS) on a number of space & sea platforms including the International Space Station, and the next generation of space vehicles such as CST-100 and Orion, and the US Navy’s submarine fleet.
Collins Aerospace is looking for an experienced, senior Systems Engineer to join their team in Houston, Texas. This position requires detailed knowledge of avionics definition, integration, test and certification activities along with excellent project and team management skills. A background in systems engineering along with experience in subsystem design is a must. Experience with a variety of avionics systems is required.
This position will work on-site at our Houston, Texas Spaceport facility and serve as the Spacesuit Integration Systems Engineer for the EVA & HSM Value Stream Engineering organization.
Responsibilities:
Develop and manage the EVA system requirements, interfaces and technical integration of Spacecraft Vehicles to the COLLINS xEVAS Platform
Responsible for developing and documenting interfaces between Spacecraft Vehicles and the COLLINS xEVAS Platform.
Facilitating and managing Avionics system integration among technical teams in resolving interfaces issues across a variety of technical disciplines including structural/mechanical, command/data handling, thermal, electrical power, and loads/dynamic
Develop and manage verification and closure of design requirements, safety hazards, and joint technical analyses for thermal, loads, power, etc.
Facilitating and managing integration with engineering spacecraft subsystems and operations disciplines to fully certify the Avionics systems and subsystem elements for the XEVAS platform
Technical support for Business Development and Contracts in addressing xEVAS Avionics EVA Integration.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of prior relevant experience OR
Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience OR
In absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience is required
Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations
8 to 10 + years of spacesuit vehicle interface management or related experience preferred
BS degree in Engineering or a related technical field preferred, will consider relevant years of related experience
Experience with developing and prioritizing high-level department project scheduling based on technical and project delivery milestones
Experience with performing/tracking duties pertaining to schedules
Working knowledge of the general principles of technical document preparation and maintenance, as well as reporting and resolving schedule discrepancies with project deliverables
Exposure to Project Management principles, or a project management related coursework or certification is a plus
High technical expertise in aerospace and spacecraft systems preferred
Systems engineering and integration experience preferred
Human in the loop testing or analysis preferred
Demonstrated experience in Vehicle Display development and testing including checkout, prognostic monitoring, radio and communication interface, caution and warning,
Strong aerospace engineering background with technical knowledge in environmental control and thermal control systems, and/or thrust vector control systems preferred
Strong customer and internal stakeholder relationships Strong communication skills and ability to work across the organization and various disciplines, including Engineering, Quality, Business Development, Operations, and PP&C
Ability to communicate complex technical subjects with clarity and precision Ability to lead and coach IPT leaders to develop core leadership skills and innovative solutions to problems
Must be a US Citizen.
