    Job Summary:

    Raytheon Missiles and Defense (RMD) is looking for a Software Engineering Department Leader (DL) for the Strike Effectors software department.  The department is part of the RMD Software Products Engineering (SPE) organization and includes products such as Tomahawk, Stormbreaker™, and LRSO representing both Air Power and Naval Power Mission Areas.

    The Software DL is responsible for ensuring program technical, cost, and schedule performance with continuous status monitoring and problem resolution spanning across the organization.

    You will report directly to the SPE Effectors Center (EC), Center Manager.  The DL will work collaboratively with the EC Leadership Team with other RMD Mission Area Engineering DLs, key program leads, and functional organization leads to achieve the Company's goals.  You will have frequent interaction with Program, Business Development, Engineering Directors, and Mission Area Vice Presidents to achieve Business objectives.

    This role will be primarily located in Tucson, Arizona.
     

    Responsibilities to anticipate:

    • Plan, direct, and ensure appropriate leadership for development and support tasks for assigned software programs. Ensure technical rigor and depth of all deliverables.
    • Develop and maintain the Department's people resources, including Section Leaders, staff, and individual contributors, in support of the technology, program, and development needs of the Engineering CBT and Business Area IBT.
    • Provide effective assignment, leadership, and management for Section Leaders and IPT / CPT Leads to ensure success for product development and program execution
    • Provide effective guidance, coaching and leadership to Section Leaders and IPT/CPT Leads to ensure effective communications and for effective execution of the bid/proposal process and utilization of Earned Value Management System, IMS, and IMP tools in program execution support
    • Oversee software monthly progress reviews and direct analysis of department metrics to facilitate organizational improvement and competitiveness
    • Lead and manage the Department staff, attracting and developing effective software engineers, test engineers and engineering leaders.
    • Carry out and enforce all policies of the Raytheon Technologies within the department.

    Qualifications you MUST have:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)
    • 12 plus years of prior relevant engineering experience or 9 plus years with an advance degree.
    • Engineering experience to include leadership roles as well as technical and management roles.
    • Experience in program leadership for defense and/or aerospace programs
    • Experience with defense acquisition processes for software and systems (for example, RFPs, proposals, contracts/subcontracts, Gate and Milestone Reviews and/or formal configuration management).
    • An active and in-scope secret US security clearance

    Qualifications we value:

    • Master’s Degree in STEM or MBA
    • 12+ years in engineering experience with strong technical and management background in design and development activities.
    • Previous functional/line management experience
    • Technical background in complex, software intensive systems
    • Technical background with Radar Systems, Maintenance, Simulation, Trainers, Validation, and DoD programs
    • Knowledge of the Directorate's engineering disciplines and processes, including Gate Reviews, Agile, Scrum and DevSecOps methodologies
    • Knowledge of basic system engineering processes including system integration
    • Excellent coaching and facilitation skills
    • Proven multi-disciplinary leadership ability
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Strong goal setting and planning skills
    • Excellent follow-through and persistence
    • Experience in Raytheon CORE
