Pratt & Whitney, a Raytheon Technologies Corp. company (NYSE:RTX), is a world leader in the design, manufacture and service of aircraft engines, auxiliary power units and small turbojet propulsion products. The Pratt & Whitney Materials and Processes Engineering (MPE) organization is seeking an engineer to execute light weight alloy development, characterization and production implementation in current & future jet engines.

The engineer serves customers across the enterprise (supply chain, engine programs, advanced technology, etc.) to plan, execute, and report on technical research and development related to light weight turbine engine alloys such as Aluminum and Titanium. Projects will range from engine safety, production stoppage, new/repair technology development, cost reduction, etc. where the engineer will understand customer requirements and execute development programs to meet and exceed business needs. The engineer will collaborate with other internal engineering disciplines, engineering management and manufacturing customers as part of an Integrated Product Team to ensure successful transition and implementation of alloy technology into Pratt & Whitney’s products. To perform this role effectively, the candidate is expected to be proficient in or able to attain proficiency in the physical metallurgy of alloys and associated processes such as ingot casting, conversion, forging, heat treatment, solid state joining and characterization (mechanical, physical & metallography). In addition, working knowledge of integrated computational modeling tools and frameworks (e.g. ThermoCalc, DEFORM, etc.) is desired to effectively solve complex problems. Candidates will also lead elements or entire initiatives to establish next generation materials with unique capabilities for specific applications.

The candidate will interface with the Air Force Research Lab (AFRL), Department of Defense (DOD), Department of Energy (DOE) and NASA customers & lab technical community to seek, secure and execute contracts. Experience with program planning, cost estimation and scheduling in addition to meeting contractual requirements during execution is preferred. The candidate must be able to work effectively in a team environment and be highly motivated.  The candidate will be viewed as a discipline leader and responsibilities include bench-marking alloy technology and processes, securing funding, managing projects, and updating engineering standard work. 

Travel requirement- 10%

Basic Qualifications:

B.S. degree in Materials Science, Engineering, or Chemistry

5+ years of relevant engineering experience or 3+ year's with a Masters or 0 w/a Ph.D

Candidate must be a US Citizen or Green card holder. 

Preferred Qualifications:

Ph.D

Experience in Failure Analysis and working with manufacturing facilities to improve manufacturing processes.

Experience in Aluminum, Titanium, and Magnesium alloy development for aerospace material applications.

Experience in data collection, data management, and data analysis methods. 

Exposure to manufacturing or transition to production of new alloys
