    Collins Aerospace Actuation Systems division is looking for an Engineering Manager to Lead and technically contribute to our Circuit Design and Electronic Controller organization in Rockford IL.  Our products are highly complex Aircraft High-Lift Systems.

    The successful candidate will both lead the engineering team and contribute to the technical solutions.  The team develops circuitry in concert with software used with Collins Actuation Systems electrical and electronic products including Slat/Flap Electronic Control Units (SFECU).  The applicant will apply principles and techniques of electrical/electronic engineering to ensure design preparation is in accordance with applicable specifications, customer requirements and standard work practices; interfaces with various functional groups to coordinate conceptual, preliminary, and detailed unit design, engineering documentation releases, development testing, qualification testing, and entry into service.

    This individual must be an analytical thinker and be disciplined in applying robust design methodologies and engineering principles (modeling, simulation, data acquisition etc.) to develop and realize solutions.  This individual must be self-motivated and able to work independently but must also be able to interface directly with a multinational team of electrical and mechanical engineers, software developers, and systems engineers to develop system-wide solutions. 

    Position will be working onsite at our Rockford, IL facility. Relocation assistance is available.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Lead the design effort for circuitry (Digital, Analog, and Power) and software for design of the System architecture. These designs will be to Aerospace standard including but not limited to DO-160 and DO-254
    • Integrate Hardware and software for embedded microprocessor devices and firmware based FPGA devices.
    • Assist in the design and development of embedded systems circuitry and printed circuit assemblies according to IPC standards.
    • Generate design documentation including requirements specifications, design details, test procedures and reports.
    • Prepare and review the drawings and layouts for production parts, components, and test equipment.
    • Create, document and test software and hardware to validate design details
    • Provide oversight and leadership to their direct reports including professional development, resource planning, coaching, and additional future recruiting
       

    Basic Qualifications:

    • Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws / regulations. 
    • Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years’ experience OR  
    • In absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience is required  
    • Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Expert circuit designer with product design experience in both analog and digital circuits.
    • Experience in analysis and schematic layout software packages
    • Familiarity with some type of electrical analysis software
    • Evaluate concepts by creating analytical models and provide direction on which concept will meet component and or system level performance.
    • Interact cross-functionally with a wide variety of people and teams. Work closely with engineers to identify opportunities for design improvements.
    • Experience with developing proposals and cost estimates for new business
    • Make business recommendations (e.g. cost-benefit, forecasting) with effective presentations of findings at multiple levels of stakeholders.
    • Demonstrable critical thinking and analytical skills, including the ability and confidence to make conclusions and recommendations from data
    • Work with a team of engineers to design, develop, test and document electrical components.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
    • Proven project management experience including budgets, schedules, resources, and risk management
    • Working knowledge of DO-160 and DO-254
