Collins Aerospace has an immediate need for a Sr Principal Engineer, Electrical Engineering to support programs in our Richardson, TX facility.  This engineer will assume the role of a Product Component Engineer (PCE) which serves as the technical resource to the Design, Manufacturing, Program Management, Supply Chain, Quality, etc. communities for electrical and mechanical components, materials, and related process support.   This role is often the liaison between the Collins Component Engineering Team and local Design Engineering in part, supplier, and process selection.  A PCE is involved in the overall product design through New Product Introduction (NPI) to ensure the overall component health and producibility of the product.  This individual must be able to work in a matrixed environment and influence stakeholders at multiple levels in the corporation.

This role will be on-site in Richardson, Texas.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Understand preferred technologies, sources of supply, and acceptance criteria for commodities used on assigned programs.
  • Apply techniques for the documentation and release of components, processes, and design guidelines associated with assigned programs.
  • Review Bills of Materials (BOM) to ensure maximum health (technology, life cycle, source of supply, etc)
  • Perform Failure and Root Cause Analysis and corrective action on assigned programs.
  • Provide technical assistance for programs related to:
  • Material verification resolution
  • Specification or drawing exceptions
  • Supplier Chain issues
  • Manufacturing related issues
  • Identify, evaluate, and recommend new components or materials and manufacturers for new product requirements and for improving existing manufacturing process yields.
  • Analyze parametric data, preference codes, and obsolescence prediction data for components in assigned programs.
  • General technical support including activities associated with Bidding/Negotiating, Data Collection, and Analysis. Report Generation related to technical issues including but not limited to; Hazardous Material, fungus, shelf life, ESD, flammability, etc.
  • Connect design teams with Producibility and Design to Cost Functions to achieve minimum cost and optimal performance in Collins designs.
  • Take ownership of all regional parts related to local programs.
  • Uses technical knowledge and skills to lead projects.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience
  • Must be a https://U.S. Citizen
  • Must hold a current SECRET DoD clearance with ability to obtain Top-Secret
  • Must have experience in DMSMS experience
  • Candidate must have experience in Mil-Std-11991A
  • Knowledge of electrical principles and electronic components
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and vendor data sheets
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

  • Understand and follow processes and procedures for component management
  • Perform data analysis on bills of material to ensure customer requirements are met
  • Document and report findings to appropriate teams and leadership
  • Manage multiple projects at one time
  • Work as part of cross-functional team
