Senior Principal Systems Engineer - Mission Systems

Job Summary:

Collins Aerospace Mission Systems Strategic Integrated Solutions (SIS) team is seeking a Sr. Principal Systems Engineer with a passion for problem solving and satisfying customers through integrating technologies from across the business and demonstrating their utility to the different Department of Defense (DOD) customers. The focus of this position will be to work across directorates and business units to help integrate capabilities from across the organization that align with the Joint All Domain Command and Control (JADC2) initiatives of the DOD in the support of current and future planned demonstration activities. This position is performed with minimal supervision and requires a candidate with highly-effective communication skills, a strong bias for action, and the ability to prioritize and advance multiple objectives.  A broad awareness of products and services offered by Collins Aerospace and experience in working directly with customers to integrate and test new capabilities that meet their needs is desired.

Job Responsibilities:

Ability to leverage their significant experience in integration and test to take new capabilities and integrate them into target hardware to enable demonstrations with end customers.  Will be required to lead the set up and verification of entire system for demonstrations to end customers and be able to travel to support set up and demonstration events.  Provide inputs to technical & product roadmaps.

  • Support systems engineering team to capture, analyze, decompose, model and create requirements for systems, product or sub-systems of high complexity.
  • Will lead cross-functional or domain teams as an integration & test lead for high complexity systems.
  • Interact with government customers and teams to ensure that the we can install and demonstrate/test our systems on their platforms
  • Develop functional, interface and performance specifications for hardware and software implementation. Contribute to architecturally significant requirements and technical risk area identification.
  • Estimate report project technical, cost and schedule aspects for assigned scope of work.
  • Support technical proposal preparation, compliance matrix development, and systems engineering bids
  • Decisions may have significant impact on cost, schedule, and performance.
  • Understand and utilize internal processes, methods and tools for systems development and documentation efforts.
  • Act as a mentor to more-junior engineers in the areas of systems engineering with a focus on integration and test.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of prior relevant experience OR 
    Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years experience OR 
    In absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience is required 
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations
  • Experience with hardware and software design and development processes
  • Proven leadership skills, especially in managing dotted line relationships across multiple disciplines
  • Very strong interpersonal communication (verbal, written and presentation) skills with the ability to interact positively and collaboratively with others at all levels of the organization
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance.  Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements
