Position summary

This is a Systems Engineering position that requires an array of technical competencies including the ability to perform product implementation, modifications and enhancements to product in accordance with specific customer specifications and implementations.

The position is in Palmdale, CA. The individual selected must be qualified to support U-2 operations under adverse conditions and impending or active hostilities.  In addition, the position supports a USAF worldwide deployable program so the individual selected must be able and ready to deploy anywhere in the world at a moment’s notice.  An active Secret is required, and TS/SCI clearance is preferred.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Monitor, analyze and characterize the performance of complex data processing systems.
  • Sensor maintenance – This is assuming the ARS kit is fully built
    • Replacing LRUs (Transmitter, LVPS, REC, Antenna, LCS, CDU, OBP, SSA)
    • Replacing sensor harnessing and cabling
    • These installing/replacing skills are physical and mechanical
  • Sensor Upload and Download
  • Activities will be conducted with Ground Support Equipment in the LM SIL or with the datalink to the FTF for the Ground Station
  • Engineer(s) from ES will be running the I&T but will require coordination by the FSR to secure the schedule in the SIL
  • Isolated faults – Trace faults and distinguish between hardware and software fault sources.
  • Security+ certification (required for root/privileged account); could probably be brought in without out it and leverage El Segundo support, if needed, until it is obtained
  • General UNIX experience (Solaris, future RHEL), shell commands, etc., including ability to troubleshoot basic system issues (full file systems, file permissions, etc.)
  • Recommend, initiate and oversee actions to correct faults.
  • Maintain sensor equipment on aircraft.
  • Provide support for aircraft checkout prior to flights.
  • Integrate and updated software and hardware in ground station and on sensor.
  • Work with a diverse team of users, analysts, Raytheon and other contractor personnel, and customers.

Required Skills:

  • Demonstrated ability in handling the Job Responsibilities described above.
  • Effective oral and written communication abilities.
  • Expertise typically gained through eight (8) or more years of hardware/software experience including ground station support, Flightline support, Sensor Payload maintenance UNIX, and system administration experience.
  • Highly effective oral and written communication abilities.
  • Strong teamwork skills – The ability to interact productively with end users, analysts, other Raytheon personnel, and customers in a diverse team setting.
  • 8 years of related military, data processing, system administration, radar, IR or RF experience.
  • Knowledge of U.S. Air Force Flight line courtesies and regulations.
  • Good knowledge of Solaris.
  • Strong teamwork skills – The ability to interact productively with end users, analysts, other Raytheon personnel, and customers in a diverse team setting.

Desired Skills Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Aircraft maintenance and flight line experience.
  • UNIX knowledge typically gained through 8 years of experience.
  • Working knowledge of/experience using Military Equipment accounts and Integrated Maintenance Data Systems (IMDS).
  • Experience working with SAR imagery and knowledge of RADAR theory.

Required education:

Typically requires BS/BA in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM), or a minimum of 16 years of experience or a combination of experience, education, and training may substitute for the degree.

Security Clearance Requirements: Active Secret clearance required. Active TS/SCI preferred.

Special Work Circumstances:

  • Working rotating shifts may be required.
  • Travel may be required.
  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds and able to sit for long periods of time.
  • Must be willing and able to get all inoculations, including the Anthrax Vaccine, COVID-19 Vaccine and the Smallpox Vaccine as required by the US military.
  • Must be able and ready to deploy anywhere in the world at a moment’s notice.
  • Must be willing and able to deploy to environments that may include harsh living conditions (extreme heat and cold, deployed living conditions, etc).
