    Systems Engineer – Transducer R & D (P4)

    The System Design & Architecture (SD&A) Directorate is the central focus for Mission Systems Integration activities within RMD, responsible for defining customer needs, functional and product architecture, requirements definition and decomposition, Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), system performance, and System Security Engineering (SSE).

    The Battlefield, Command and Control and Maritime Systems (BC2MS) Department in Portsmouth, RI, primarily supports programs in the U.S. Navy’s undersea and surface domains including sensor systems, mine countermeasures, submarines, torpedoes, combat systems, and ship architecture/integration. This position is for a senior-level Transducer Engineer. In this position, the engineer will help develop new transducer technologies, supporting Research and Development (R&D) programs. This will involve developing concepts and requirements for new systems, developing new technology, testing systems, integrating into larger systems and meeting with customers.

    Responsibilities to Anticipate:

    • Support new transducer technology R&D programs throughout the program lifecycle, e.g.,
      • Research, Design, and Development
      • Prototyping and Production
      • Conducting Testing and Evaluation
    • Test and evaluate existing sonar sensing, acoustic communications, and active/passive sonar systems, proposing design modifications as appropriate
    • Develop new business opportunities
    • Mentor and work with junior engineers to develop requirements

    Qualifications You Must Have:

    • Typically requires a Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and 8 years of prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field and 5 years of prior relevant experience.  In absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required.

    • Experience in transducers, projectors, piezo, sonar, acoustics, arrays or hydrophone technology

    • Active and transferrable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

    Qualifications We Value:

    • Doctorate degree in a related field
    • Experience in transducer or hydrophone design modeling and simulation, e.g., MATLAB, COMSOL
    • Experience in transducer or hydrophone test and evaluation against design
    • Requirements development and system level design experience
    • An active and in-scope Top Secret US security clearance
    • Experience with piezoelectrics
    • Team leadership skills
    • Good written and oral technical communication skills
    • Enjoys working with and collaborating across interdisciplinary teams
    • Experience transitioning technology from R&D to Production
